Distribution Manager (Chico, CA)

Vacancy expired!

The Chico News & Review is hiring a Distribution Manager to oversee the weekly operations of distributing our paper via a team of highly dedicated drivers throughout the greater Chico area. We are seeking and organized and hard-working professional with a keen attention to detail and experience with overseeing a high-volume delivery system.

Published weekly since 1977, the award-winning News & Review provides the greater Chico, Sacramento, and Reno areas with a lively mixture of news, features, commentary, arts and a calendar of events. Our publications reflect our work environment: decidedly NOT corporate, yet an effective foundation of passion and professionalism topped off with an edgy but laid-back attitude.

Essential Responsibilities:

Supervise all Distribution Drivers and work closely with the Director of Distribution and the Director of People & Culture to interview, higher, train coach and counsel employees

Plan and schedule newspaper loads, unloads and deliveries to designated display boxes, rack and counters; generate run sheets

Maintain inventory records or all racks, vendors and lease agreements

Solicit new locations and coordinate the delivery of racks to new locations

Perform retention and location analysis of current locations, determine opportunity for re-stocking, increasing or moving locations, and managing the rate of return

Develop and oversee an ongoing rack maintenance schedule

Manage the Art Rack Program

Prepare initial print order and coordinate insert delivery with third-party printer

Regularly communicate with all clients to seek out opportunity for providing new and improved services

Prepare periodic departmental reports for the purpose of timely communication and the development of appropriate strategies by the Distribution Director

Be prepared and willing to take on delivery routes in the event of a driver absence or temporary staffing vacancy

Our ideal candidate has strong relationship and service skills, with the ability to effectively communicate in a fast-paced environment, anticipate needs and deliver exceptional service to both internal and external customers. Additional qualifications include the ability to stay calm and positive under pressure, and the desire and ability to be extremely organized. This position requires the ability to work independently with little supervision, as part of a collaborative team, and must be able to mentor and supervise a diverse team of part-time employees. We need a Distribution Manager with a proven track record of strategic problem-solving and developing solutions for often complex delivery issues.

This position requires at least a high school-level education, with at least five years of experience in a customer service and distribution role, and a minimum of two years of experience in a supervisory role.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, paid time off, and a 401(k).

If interested and qualified, please apply in the following manner. Applicants who do not follow this application process will not be considered.
