This job requires close scrutiny in order to reduce the likelihood of human failure and injury. The Herdsman/Cattle Handler is responsible for the humane treatment of live animals of different type, size, and temperament.The employee must use caution and maintain keen awareness of their surroundings at all times. This role is responsible for the humane treatment of live animals and maintaining a proper distance from them. The Herdsman/Cattle Handler also ensures the safety of those around them and must follow all safety processes and procedures at all times. This includes monitoring of all gates within the area and closing gates to pens behind them.This position requires previous animal handling experience.The employee in this role must participate in mandatory training involving Animal Welfare/Handling, HAZCOM, Environmental, Ergonomics, Health & Safety, Hygiene & Food Safety, Cattle Driving and Policy & Procedures. They are responsible for wearing personal protective equipment such as a Protective Helmet, Chest Vest, Standard Work Boots, Hearing Protection, Safety Glasses, and for ensuring all personal equipment is in good repair.While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions with slippery surfaces at varied heights; moving mechanical parts; fast paced, high noise disciple, warm/cool environment. Positions require standing or walking the entire shift, the use of stairs, and the use of PPE which is required in all areas of the facility.Principal AccountabilitiesPerform repetitive tasks. Examples include:

Standing, walking, herding live cattle

Opening and closing of gates to pens, ensuring they’re properly latched

Confirm pen number on line-up and USDA inspection approval

Tracking, reading, or creating reports manually or via computer

Ensuring food safety and quality

Maintaining a safe working environment for others and live animals

QualificationsRequired Qualifications

Authorization to work in the United States

Must be 18 years or older

Previous animal handling experience

Preferred Qualifications

Previous Cargill experience

Work history in the past 12 months
