Boeing's Product & Services Safety (P&SS) organization is looking for a Boeing Global Services Senior System Safety Engineer to join our team and grow the Boeing Global Services (BGS) Safety Core capability, with the mission to strengthen a safety engineering function across the company and develop enduring safety design practices to assure the safety, quality, integrity, and mission success of our products and services.

The BGS Safety Core Team collaborates with Enterprise Safety as well as design, test, modifications, and sustainment organizations within BGS and across Boeing's business units to develop and implement appropriate policies, procedures, capabilities, skill competencies, tool suites (Model Based Systems Engineering or MBSE), standards, and training which support product and system safety consistent with Boeing's Safety Management System (SMS) and industry best practices, such as ARP4761, ARP4754, MIL-STD-882, and MIL-HDBK-516.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Working across the enterprise to understand stakeholder needs and requirements, integrating cross-organizationally, and managing projects that align to Enterprise Safety Vision and Mission
  • Leading and supporting Boeing Global Services investigations and associated Enterprise-wide process improvement activities
  • Overseeing the Boeing Global Services safety escalation process by supporting division and executive-level safety review meetings and aligning Boeing Global Services' processes to those of the enterprise
  • Cataloging, synthesizing, and developing action plans for product and services safety lessons learned, pulled from across the Boeing Global Services organization
  • Defining system safety design practices for use across Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Boeing Defense & Security, and Boeing Global Services, including establishing Boeing safety guidance documents. Design practices include those used for new design and existing fleet safety
  • Represent Boeing Global Services in establishing System Safety University curriculum and developing training material to educate the wider engineering team on product safety fundamentals (Safety Assessments, Software Criticality, software safety, use of newly developed tools etc.)
  • Gaining a working knowledge of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Boeing Defense and Security, and Boeing Global Services safety processes
  • Ensuring Safety Management System goals are well understood and properly executed in Boeing Global Services-wide safety processes


This position allows some telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "U.S. Person" includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor, Master, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • Experience developing/applying aviation related system safety analysis methods, such as System Safety Risk Assessments, Fault-Tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), and Safety Assessment Report (SAR)
  • Experience in Systems Safety, Systems Engineering, and/or Product Design experience
  • Experience as a safety professional supporting commercial or U.S. military aviation operations


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience with fleet safety risk management processes
  • 7+ years of experience of System Safety Analyses, threats (Particular Risk Analyses), cascading effects analysis like Single and Multiple Failure, and Fault Trees
  • Experience in aerospace systems engineering and safety engineering together with the ability to make recommendations (process improvements, information technology opportunities, etc.) to further the goals of the organization
  • Experience taking initiative and supporting cross functional teams and complex projects


Typical Education/Experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
