The Health and Human Services Agency of Nevada County is pleased to announce a recruitment for the position of Human Services Specialist I. There are multiple positions to fill in both the Sierra Nevada Regional Department of Child Support Services (SNRDCSS) and the Department of Social Services.

The mission of Social Services is to open doors, build community and be of service to Nevada County individuals needing social, eligibility, employment and training services. The core services provided by the Social Services Eligibility division include providing CalFresh (food), CalWORKS and General Assistance (monetary), Medi-Cal (medical) and Employment and Training services to our residents.

The mission of Child Support Services is to enhance the well-being of children and self-sufficiency of families by delivering professional child support services. The core services provided by the department include the establishment of paternity and child support orders as well as the collection and enforcement of support obligations.

Both departments are looking for someone who is skilled in working with a diverse demographic of the community, has strong communication skills, is non-judgmental, and can be flexible and adaptable within a constantly changing environment. The ideal candidate will be a strong team player, effective collaborator, and have a passion for assisting the most vulnerable members of our community while making them feel valued and heard. The ideal candidates must be comfortable with debt collection and payment negotiations showing enthusiasm for positively influencing the lives of children and families. Tentative Written Examination Date: Monday, August 26, 2019. Examinations will only be held in Nevada County at the Eric Rood Government Center, 950 Maidu Avenue, Nevada City, CA 95959. You must take the test in person.

Minimum requirements include graduation from high school/possession of GED certificate, plus Associate of Arts or Science degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, Business, Psychology, Social Work or a related degree. One year of general clerical, administrative, business office, or technical work experience required. Experience in a setting involving extensive public contact, heavy phone usage, and customer service is preferred.
