Reporting to the Director of Architectural Services, the Infrastructure Architect’s role is to develop and maintain the high-level design plan for the overall logical and technical IT architecture. This individual will provide technical leadership and consulting across the organization, from strategic decision making down to the project planning level. The Infrastructure Architect will gain organizational commitment for all high-level infrastructure plans, and initiate and participate in projects to evaluate technologies and methods for implementing these plans.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of company’s strategic business plans.
  • Provide architectural consulting expertise, direction, and assistance to all SMBMI Teams.
  • Document and develop in-depth knowledge of company’s existing IT architecture/infrastructure, and technology portfolio.
  • Assist in the Development and management of the infrastructure capacity plan (including cloud).
  • Develop, document, communicate, and enforce a technology standards policy.
  • Conduct research on emerging technologies in support of infrastructure development efforts, and recommend technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and infrastructure flexibility.
  • Develop, document, make recommendations, and communicate plans for investing in IT infrastructure, including analysis of cost reduction opportunities.
  • Design, develop, and oversee implementation of end-to-end integrated systems.
  • Develop and execute test plans to check infrastructure and systems technical performance. Report on findings and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Collaborate with end users and senior management to define business requirements for complex systems development and gain buy-in for all infrastructure plans.
  • Review new and existing IT projects, systems designs, and procurement/outsourcing plans for compliance with IT standards and architectural plans.
  • Provide guidance to all team members and be collaborative at all levels of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Education/Experience/Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or Engineering, or equivalent practical experience required.
  • Minimum eight (8) years prior experience as an Infrastructure Architect, Network Engineer, Application Architect, or related discipline, with a demonstrated track record of delivery.
  • Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in requirements gathering and development.
  • Strong experience with systems analysis and functional design.
  • Knowledge of the full software development lifecycle and/or agile development methodologies.
  • Strong technical verbal and written communication skills with the ability to simplify terminology that a non-technical end user and/or senior executive can understand.
  • Ability to create a positive and professional business relationship with internal and external clients as well as third-party service/product providers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical professionals, and an understanding of system architecture and software architecture.
  • Excellent understanding of typical multi-tier architectures: web servers, caching, application servers, load balancers, and storage.
  • Understanding of Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) and NoSQL.
  • Knowledge of message queuing and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB).
  • Familiarity with loose coupling and stateless systems.
  • Understanding of different consistency models in distributed systems.
  • Knowledge of Content Delivery Networks (CDN).
  • Hands-on experience with core LAN/WAN network technologies.
  • Experience with route tables, access control lists, firewalls, NAT, HTTP, DNS, IP and OSI Network.
  • Knowledge of RESTful Web Services, XML, JSON.
  • Familiarity with the software development lifecycle.
  • Work experience with information and application security concepts, mechanisms, and tools.
  • Awareness of end-user computing and collaborative technologies.
  • Large-scale distributed systems architecture.
  • System performance tuning.
  • Information and application security concepts including public key encryption, remote access, access credentials, and certificate-based authentication.
  • Knowledge of the Casino Gaming industry preferred.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations
  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • TOGAF or Cobit certification preferred.
  • ITIL (Foundation or higher) certification preferred, not required.
  • A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company’s insurance carrier.
