Contribute to a variety of water resources planning projects with Sonoma County Water Agency (Sonoma Water) as a Water Agency Hydrogeologist! Starting salary up to $69.70/hour ($145,472/year) and a cash allowance of $600/month.*
The Water Agency Hydrogeologist III position supports the Groundwater Resources Section of the Engineering Division by working on a variety of planning projects while providing technical expertise to various divisions within Sonoma Water. This position works on a variety of difficult and complex projects, and meets with stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and members of the public on groundwater management programs. Additional responsibilities include:
Assessing, designing, and deploying groundwater and surface water monitoring networks and protocols
Directing the construction of monitoring devices, including groundwater monitoring wells and stream gauge stations
Performing and directing the collection of high quality hydrogeologic field data, including lithologic, groundwater-level, water quality, and streamflow data
Using data management systems to develop and maintain hydrogeologic datasets
Preparing and reviewing complex technical documents
Conducting water supply studies with regard to both surface water and groundwater
Evaluating enhanced groundwater recharge projects
Utilizing numerical groundwater flow models for water resource planning
The ideal candidate will possess:
Expertise in conducting and managing field investigations and monitoring programs (such as water well and monitoring well construction, surface water/groundwater interaction assessments, soil/groundwater sampling; geophysical surveys and aquifer tests)
Expertise in establishing and implementing monitoring protocols to comply with regulatory requirements and ensure the collection of high quality data
Experience with managing and analyzing complex hydrogeologic datasets
Familiarity with the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act requirements
Strong written communication skills to write and produce high quality scientific documents
The ability to communicate with the public and form relationships with outside agencies (e.g., Regional Water Quality Control Boards and California Department of Water Resources)
