JOB TITLE: Personal Development Coach

FLSA STATUS: Nonexempt

SALARY: $14.50 - $15.00 per hr DOE

PROGRAM: Breaking Barriers

HOURS: Mon 10am-12pm, Tues 10am-12pm, Wed 8am-12pm, Thurs 10am-3:30pm, Fri 8am-3:30pm

LOCATION: Community/Service Site

SUPERVISOR: Employment Outreach Director

SUMMARY: Must have flexibility in work schedule, will work days or evenings as warranted. A Personal Development Coach (PDC) is directly responsible for implementing the Individual Service Plan (ISP), providing skill instruction, and supervising all ILS activities involving the program participant(s) to which they are assigned. In addition, PDC’s will be required to maintain accurate records for their program participant(s) and DCC-Breaking Barriers as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties as assigned.

1. Under the direction of the Personal Development Coordinator program participant(s).

2. Provide support to the Employment Outreach Coordinator or program Directors as needed.

3. Assist designated program participant(s) with self-image activities, such as grooming, work appropriate dressing, and personal hygiene as required according to participant’s ISP.

4. Assist with distribution, taking, and storing of medications as specified in Section 80075(GLR) and maintain accurate and timely records of dispensing and storage.

5. Report directly to the Employment Outreach Coordinator with comments, suggestions, or concerns regarding assigned program participant(s).

6. Supervise and carry out participant’s schedules and activities.

7. Provide skill acquisition coaching to aid designated participant(s) in achieving the goals dictated in their ISP.

8. Implements curriculum and related activities designed for the individual needs of designated program participant(s).

9. Encourage/teach appropriate workplace behavior and professional requirements regarding personal hygiene and attire to participant(s).

10. Assists participants in understanding assigned job tasks, use of required equipment, assigned work areas, work schedules, and maximizing productivity.

11. Determine necessity of worksite accommodations, report said necessity to Employment Outreach Coordinator, and provide participant instruction on said accommodations prior to employment.

12. Assist in teaching participant(s) daily living skills, problem-solving techniques, choice making, and educational advancement.

13. Under the direction of the Employment Outreach Coordinator, assist in the discovery process (Griffin-Hammis DPG) to ensure participants are placed in an employment field that aligns with their specific career goals.

14. Provide positive reinforcement of participant(s) efforts via verbal and non-verbal means.

15. Instruct participant(s) in understanding a task, use of tools, equipment, and supplies necessary to complete the task without finishing the task for them.

16. Assist Employment Outreach Coordinator, as needed, to support individuals with disabilities and their support team members to communicate with each other effectively, co-workers, supervisors, and potential customers of said individuals.

17. Assist participants in securing transportation to and from potential work and accessing mobility training, as needed.

18. Under the direction of the Employment Outreach Coordinator, assist in the creation and implementation of business plans for participants who have been approved for micro-enterprise development.

19. Instruct participant(s) on remaining safe at all times.

20. Complete and maintain schedules, daily time sheets, mileage logs, ILS Reporting Logs, and other records as needed.

21. Aid in the positive moral of the overall DCC-Breaking Barriers environment.

22. Maintain effective relationships with the Employment Outreach Director, ILS Vocational Director, and Executive Director to ensure teamwork, quality control, and to establish the most productive methods for assisting designated participant(s).

23. Comprehend and implement provided instructions in a variety of methods, including verbal, written, or physical.

24. Maintain program rules for the protection of participants.

25. Drive, in personal vehicle, designated program participant(s) to various community locations as required.

26. Interact with live animals when necessary.

27. Must be able to regularly, for up to 30 minutes or more, be able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, talk, and hear. Will occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and frequently lift or move objects up to 50 lbs.

28. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

29. Participate in ongoing professional training, as needed, to develop and maintain knowledge of current best practices in the field of ILS and/or employment assistance for people who have a disability.

30. Comply, as required, with all applicable Redwood Coast Regional Center standards and Department of Labor Law regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty accurately. Education and/or Experience:

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required. A minimum of

one year related experience working with individuals who have a developmental or intellectual disability is preferred, but NOT required. College courses (such as psychology, child development, or education) may be partially substituted for experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret comprehensive documents written in English. Able to write reports, participant goals, and fill out needed paper work in English. Must be able to speak English effectively in both large and small settings in the community, with participants, families, staff, employers, agencies, and other individuals, as needed, to accomplish objectives.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Must be able to keep accurate billing information and understand work incentives.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Able to use creative problem solving and decision making skills.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Certification of TB clearance, physical exam, fingerprint clearance, and dependable transportation are required prior to employment start. DMV printout, proof of insurance and vehicle inspection are required prior to transporting program participants. Current CPR and first aid certificates and standard orientation trainings. Complete employment trainings or courses as they become available and are assigned.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to prioritize job responsibilities, have strong organizational skills, able to multitask, work independently, and think creatively. Must be punctual, reliable, and trustworthy.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, talk, and hear. They also need to be able to use hands, reach with their arms, feel objects, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Specific vision abilities required for this job are seeing near and far, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
