General practice law firm seeks an Independent Contractor Attorney for a part-time position. Civil Litigation and/or Family Law experience preferred, but we're also looking for attorneys that handle other areas of law such as: Employment Law, Estate Planning, Landlord/Tenant, Bankruptcy, Real Estate (Property and/or HOA disputes as well as Contractor disputes), Personal Injury, Immigration, Securities Law, Intellectual Property, Cyber Law, Conservatorships/Guardianships, Non-Profit Law, etc.
Please only apply if you're able to handle files from start to finish including through trial (if you're a litigation attorney). This is not a position for appearance and/or law/motion attorneys only. The cases that are assigned to you will be yours to work on from beginning to end. We do; however, offer you support by way of staff assistance, and we can assign other attorneys to work on cases with you, if needed.
Tasks will include, but aren't limited to: client intake (evaluating potential cases on a regular basis (primarily over the phone, but also via email and sometimes in person)), as well as handling cases through completion. As mentioned, our staff handles everything else for you (i.e., the administrative stuff like collecting payment from clients, handling documents and filings, managing your calendar for you, etc.). We just want you to handle the initial consultation and work on cases through completion. Leave the admin to us. :)
We foster a team environment at the firm, which means that you will have an assistant assigned to you in order to help move your cases along, as well as any other necessary support that you may need.
You must be very personable, reliable, know how to manage your time and know how to work independently. We try to have fun as well when working together, so a sense of humor is a plus. ;) Attorneys that have been with us for quite some time and who are very successful, do so because they manage their time well and are able to function independently, efficiently and they're able to handle their caseload without micromanagement. This is a work/life balance type of position. You will only work on cases you want to handle. You can stop receiving new matters to work on at any time.
This position is NOT for you if. you're not personable, not reliable, can't manage your time efficiently, can't work independently, do not enjoy the practice of law, afraid to quote our fees to potential clients, can't work on cases from start to finish, and/or if you're afraid of (or don't like) talking to clients/potential clients. If you're a "litigator," but you've never been to Court by yourself before, then this position is not for you. If you like to procrastinate, this position is not for you as well (and I know some very good attorneys who are procrastinators, but that won't work at our firm unfortunately.
Expectation is roughly 10-20 hours a week depending on your availability and how many cases you'd like to take on. More work and/or hours are available for you depending on the areas of law that you handle and how much work you want. If you don't have around 10-20 hours a week or so available, please do not apply.
You can work from home, your own office, or onsite at one of our locations depending on office/room availability. Working from home or your own office is preferred as long as it's in a professional environment (i.e. no dogs barking, kids playing or any other substantial noise in the background).
