Boeing Defense Space and Security is currently looking for a Senior Structures Design Engineer (Ground Support Operation) to join their team in El Segundo, CA. This position will focus on ground support operations and tooling.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate program and project requirements
  • Develop complex equipment and tooling concepts and designs solutions for the Production System
  • Develop, integrate and document vehicle tooling/equipment integration flows based on design requirements to facilitate/increase productivity during vehicle integration
  • Validate contractual performance milestones, maintain configuration control, conduct reviews, prepare plans for productions readiness, preventative maintenance, and spares
  • Develop, maintain tooling nonconformance dispositions during vehicle integration
  • Interpret tooling engineering documents using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle
  • Perform, integrate analytical and test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications
  • Manage supplier development, test and production activities and coordinate with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals
  • Support in the development of new design/analysis processes to improve the effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort
  • Investigate emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs, vehicle integration and vehicle test to meet project requirements
  • Compiles and analyzes technical data to determine the effects on product engineering design and rate estimates, identifies robotics, automation or technology recommendations and system integration for equipment and tooling
  • Ensures compliance with safety, producibility, maintainability, reliability, ergonomic factors and regulatory requirements
  • Work under general direction


This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate may be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 10+ Years of experience using Creo
  • 10+ Years of applied experience in developing and providing instructions of technical documentation and training material for Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • 10+ years of Ground support Equipment and Tooling Design or Platform Structure, Subsystem Design, Integration and/or analysis experience

Typical Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 7 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
