employer.The Executive Medical Director in Oncology is a
member of a matrix team dedicated to the implementation of clinical research
studies that are part of a global compound development program. The Executive
Medical Director oversees the entire clinical development program, and guides
and provides direction to the clinical team.Responsibilities include: The clinical functional head for providing
active scientific contributions to a cross-functional compound development
team; works in close partnership with the Global Compound Development Team
Leader and medical directors or non-MD directors. Other functional groups
represented on the compound development team include project management, global
regulatory affairs, global clinical operations, chemistry and manufacturing, global
medical affairs, global marketing, biostatistics, clinical pharmacology, and
health economics. The Executive Medical Director will also act
as a liaison between the company and the clinical investigators. He/She evaluates scientific information and
new ideas to assist in identifying new research opportunities. He/she in close partnership with the compound
global medical affairs leader will also develop the strategy and content for
scientific communications for the compound. The Executive Medical Director will serve as
the clinical leader for product evaluation, labeling safety surveillance, and
will be accountable for developing the strategy and the content for regulatory
documents. The role requires a high-performing and
energetic individual who serves as a clinical role model for the team and
demonstrates outstanding scientific knowledge applicable to oncology clinical
research and the highest personal and ethical standards. The successful candidate must be equally
comfortable among the team to which he/she is assigned and in the global
environment in which the company operates. The Executive Medical Director in Oncology
reports directly to the disease area Vice President for the product to which
he/she is assignedQualificationsQualifications: This position requires a minimum of an
advanced degree in medicine (i.e. M.D or DO or equivalent). A trained Oncologist (Board certified or
eligible or equivalent) is essential. Applicable post-doctoral fellowship training
is required. A minimum of 5 years of experience in oncology
within the pharmaceutical industry and/or academia is required The candidate has demonstrated a strong track
record in a range of leadership roles that include working with senior clinical
staff, establishing credible relationships with external stakeholders such as
opinion leaders and regulators, and demonstrating substantial experience in
drug development (including experience with IND and NDA submissions). Prior experience working in a matrix
environment and in mentoring junior clinical staff are helpful. Past experience in managing study start-up,
directing and guiding study team in study execution, data cleaning, medical
review, database lock, managing health authority responses are also needed. A strong commitment to oncology/hematology
clinical research and the ability to work well within a team setting are
essential. Travel required may be up to 30 % annually
