Job Description
We have an opening for an experienced Application Administrator. You will work independently to configure and maintain a suite of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) applications along with in-house developed software tools managing data and information in support of the NWI Program. You will be responsible for software application related problem management activities such as issue resolution and root cause analysis, working with WCI IT Infrastructure resources as needed, as well as coordinating/planning all application-specific upgrades/updates and serving as the liaison with both the vendor and WCI IT on all issues. This position is in the Application, Simulations and Quality (ASQ) Division within the Computing Directorate reporting to the Nuclear Weapons Information Program (NWIP) in the WCI Program Enablement Organization.

This position will be filled at either the 320.1 or 320.2 level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

In this roleyou will
  • Participate in the testing of the interoperability of application modules including those under development by in-house software development teams, COTS software deployed in the organization and external third parties, as necessary.
  • Monitor software applications, document and analyze problems, and publish the maintenance schedule, and review and author technical and end-user documentation.
  • Plan and coordinate testing changes, upgrades, and new services, ensuring systems will operate correctly in current and future environments.
  • Assist in the modification of software products and/or customer/internal systems to meet the needs of the client and/or end-user.
  • Collaborate with hardware, OS, DBA technical teams to ensure proper integration of the environment, while providing in-depth analysis and innovative methods to end user problem diagnosis and resolution for the applications supported.
  • Serve as the liaison with vendor support on all issues, as well as interact with users and evaluate vendor products.
  • Provide oversight for software application related problem management activities such as issue resolution and root cause analysis.
  • Develop functional requirements; provide input and status for project tracking activities, conduct systems analysis, and prototype where appropriate and deploy, test, debug, upgrade, and document software applications and integration interfaces.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the320.2 level
  • Lead system and process analysis efforts to provide creative solutions for highly complex customer problems.
  • Design and develop technical integration solutions, working directly with the application project leads to recommend solutions and strategies for configuration and integration.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent level of demonstrated knowledge and experience.
  • Broad and in-depth knowledge of and experience with software applications and application interfaces.
  • Significant experience with DevOps tools and methodologies such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Experience on failover, high availability, disaster recovery, business continuance.
  • Extensive experience troubleshooting abilities on connectivity issues due to firewall, load balancer, proxy, and others.
  • Significant experience in process automation, best practice approach, technology efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Advanced knowledge of and technical experience with Windows and/or RedHat Linux Servers.
  • Advanced customer service and problem-solving skills, including the ability to maintain a positive attitude under adverse situations.

Additional qualifications at the 320.2 level
  • Highly advanced experience working independently with minimal guidance and supervision to plan and schedule workload and establish priorities, as well as advanced written and verbal communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment, present and explain technical information, and provide advice to management.
  • Extensive experience with software configuration management and issue tracking.
  • Experience with SQL Query Development as it relates to Oracle and MSSQL Server databases.

Qualifications We Desire
  • Experience with monitoring tools, SQL Development, scripting, and Web Services.
  • Knowledge of Apache Tomcat, Microsoft IIS, and Oracle Application Server.
