About The Role:
As the Director, Product and Process Engineering you will drive efficiencies in our Operations processes, overseeing the on-time and on-budget delivery of projects related to process improvement and automation in the Manufacturing, Cultivation, Nursery, and R&D Departments. You will partner with Manufacturing and R&D to develop new production lines and bring new products to Market. As a seasoned lean manufacturing and six-sigma practitioner, you’ll prioritize projects based on ROI (gross margin increases, improved throughput), feasibility, and alignment with our corporate objectives. You will be a Technical Leader while relying on subject matter experts, leading cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives. You’ll work closely with Operations team leaders to execute improvement projects to highest adoption and quality. What You'll Do
Identify and prioritize operations areas that are in need of improvement through automation
Recommend process improvements using lean manufacturing and six-sigma best practices
Project manage improvement projects to successful adoption by operations teams on time and on budget
Study and understand all process and workflows in Manufacturing, Cultivation, Nursery, and R&D Departments
Create ROI and SWOT analysis for process improvement projects
Collaborate with Manufacturing and R&D to ID, evaluate, and select new unit operations production capabilities to support new product launches
Design, install, construct, and validate new unit operations and production lines to support new product launches
Analyze key drivers of product quality including pesticides, HM, and color remediation and derive recommendations
Manage the Engineering project portfolio in a transparent manner with frequent updates to your peer-group and senior leadership. Reprioritizing and managing risks as needed
Manage the CapEx process lifecycle from planning, approval and implementation with the support of company’s buying and planning team
Manage the budget and the timing of projects to limit current production interruption
Develop, coach, train, and supervise a team of engineers and project managers
Maintain professionalism and live our core values of Teamwork, Innovation, Integrity, and Process (TIIP) at all times
Perform all other duties as assigned or inherent to the position
Up to 25% of domestic travel expected
Stay current with all laws governing the industry and engage in review of new and improved operations methods
Assist with review of business proposals, contracts and other matters regarding operations and production processes
What You'll Need to Have
10+ years as an Engineer in Product Development, Process Improvement and Automation in increasing roles of responsibility and managing Teams
Bachelors degree in an Engineering discipline (ex: Process Engineering), Manufacturing Engineering or related area
3-5 years experience in Process Engineering and Automation
3-5 years of experience in Product Development
Experience building and refining processes, as the company grows
Past experience in startups or a high paced position is preferred
Experience in the Consumer Packaged Goods, Pharma, or Biotech industries preferred
Six-sigma green belt required, black belt a plus
Expert user of Microsoft Office and Google’s G suite
Track record of successfully delivering multi-million, complex projects on time and within budget
Hands-on experience with project management tools including Microsoft Project, Asana, Basecamp or similar
Functional knowledge of California cannabis regulations
Must be 21 years of age (or older) at the time of hire
Proficiency of the English language, verbal and written format
