Title of Position: After School Assistant

Directly Responsible to: After School Coordinator and School Leader(s)

Status: Non-Exempt; Part-Time

Pay: $15/hour

Primary Function: The After School Staff reports to the After School Site Director and is responsible for the supervision and safety of children during any and all After School activities. After School Staff will coordinate and lead activities, assist with routine processes such as attendance, snack, homework help, coordination of classes/clubs, greeting students, and assisting parents at pick-up. After School Staff will also be responsible for basic operations such as set up, clean up, rearrangement of equipment or furniture for special activities, storage of materials, and basic paperwork if assigned by the Site Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

() High School Diploma;

() Minimum of two years of relevant experience;

() TB Test clearance & DOJ fingerprinting clearance;

() Familiarity working with students in a tutoring environment;

() An enthusiasm to support a young and growing school program.

Essential Functions:

Basic Supervision and Operations:

Support the activities of the After School program through supervision that maintains a safe, respectful, inclusive and fun atmosphere and tone that is consistent with the Larchmont Charter School mission and philosophy;

Support the social/emotional well being of students using strategies and processes consistent with the school mission and philosophy;

Assist the Site Director as requested with specific tasks and routines to support the program such as tracking student attendance on daily attendance rosters, including documentation of students entering/departing the program

Provide homework help when able or direct students where to find assistance.

Organize and facilitate recreational activities for students.

Attend any/all trainings and meetings to stay current on expectations, policies and procedures;

Assist with set up, clean up, storage of equipment, and all other processes for caring for the grounds and facility

Model professional behaviors and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the broader community.

Maintain reliable, consistent attendance and punctuality.

Other Functions:

Perform other duties as assigned.

Assist in other school programs when necessary.

Knowledge of: Facilitation strategies and approaches to creating and maintaining environment of safety, respect, and learning; Cultural and socio-economic differences in the student population; Conflict resolution strategies to support healthy social development in children; Professional skills for collaboration and teamwork with other education professionals; Written and oral communications skills.

Ability to: Supervise & support students; Create and maintain a safe, respectful learning environment; Meet the needs of a diverse student population; Support student social & emotional development; Work collaboratively & professionally with the Larchmont Schools team; Communicate effectively with all stakeholders to support student success. Use modern technology for instructing, communicating and reporting.

Physical Requirements: Continual speaking; standing for long periods of time; frequent sitting, reaching, walking, bending, grasping and pinching; occasional lifting and carrying, squatting, twisting or kneeling.

Environment: Uneven surfaces, noise, quick work pace. Requires that the incumbent work effectively under stressful situations and respond to the unpredictable behaviors of students. Frequent use of computer screen. Occasionally involves working outdoors and exposure to inclement weather. Infrequently involves exposure to traffic congestion. May rarely involve exposure to biohazardous waste.
