Starting salary up to $64.81/hour ($135,266year) plus a cash allowance of approximately $600/month

Sonoma County Employees’ Retirement Association (SCERA) is a public employee defined benefit retirement system that was established by the County of Sonoma on January 1, 1946, under the authority of the County Employees Retirement Law of 1937. SCERA is administered by the Board of Retirement to provide retirement, disability, death, and survivor benefits for eligible employees of the County of Sonoma; Sonoma Valley Fire Authority; the Superior Court of California for the County of Sonoma; and other Sonoma County public agencies.As a Finance and Retiree Services Manager, you are trusted with the authority to develop procedures and make decisions as they apply specifically to the Finance and Retiree Services Division and its staff. The division works closely with SCERA’s Investments, Member Services and Administrative Divisions, as well as Plan Sponsors and contracted vendors. Managing the Finance and Retiree Services Division of SCERA, you will also be responsible for:Planning, organizing, and coordinating the fiscal activities of the Retirement Association

Leading staff in providing exemplary customer service to retirees and beneficiaries

Supervising and reviewing accounting, retiree payroll, death benefit processing, and record keeping systems and procedures

Assisting in preparation and monitoring of Association budget and requests for budget modifications

Managing preparation of annual and quarterly financial statements

Developing and implementing policies and procedures for cash management, annual internal and external audit, and managing trust fund reserve accounts

Assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of subordinate staff

This position reports to the Assistant Chief Executive Officer, and provides direct oversight and supervision of all aspects of the Finance and Retiree Services Division of SCERA, including internal staff and contracted vendors. The ideal candidate will provide not only a supervisory presence, but also strong collaborative leadership that encourages and drives operational/organizational change. The ideal candidate will also possess:Knowledge of governmental or pension accounting practices

A strong general accounting background

Effective leaderships skills with a collaborative spirit willing to work with and build relationships internally and with external stakeholders

Ability to work within the confines of policies and best practices while striving to provide exemplary service to all

Propensity to quickly learn proprietary Pension Management Systems, job specific applications and financial, actuarial, and audit institution portals

Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP / Great Plains or other similar financial management / general ledger software

Ability to communicate complex issues in relatable terms to others
