The Benbow Historic Inn is seeking an outstanding Landscape Supervisor to ensure that the grounds of the Benbow Historic Inn and the Benbow KOA Resort and Golf Course is presented in a manner of excellence in regards to landscaping.

The primary role of this position is to create a great guest experience by maintaining the appearance of the grounds and gardens of the Benbow Historic Inn and the Benbow KOA Resort & Golf Course.

OVERVIEW:

The Landscape Supervisor keeps the hotel and campgrounds in great physical condition. Interacts with customers and coordinates other crew members to provide optimum services. Execute strong attention to detail and personal integrity including working with a team or independently. There is a distinguished willingness to learn proper techniques and the correct and safe operation of all hand tools, power tools, and machinery. The essential job functions are listed below, but may include duties which are outside of these job functions which are required to meet the need of the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Knowledge of irrigation systems, parts and design planning; principles and practices of landscape construction and planting techniques; sprinkler installation and repairs methods; plant care techniques; principles of effective supervision; codes, rules, regulations, safety orders, and safety practices.

• Assist with the daily Project Management functions and project set up including paperwork.

• Play a major role in the installation process of high quality landscape installations.

• Execute proper landscaping techniques and utilize equipment, power tools, small machinery, and hand tools to carry out full service installations and proper handling of all materials.

• Will routinely load/unload equipment on trailers and safely transport equipment and materials to job site.

• Plans, directs, inspects and supervises the work of employees engaged in landscaping tasks, such as, installation, repair and adjustment of irrigation systems, construction and/or installation and repair of fences, gates, stairs; trimming and pruning hedges, trees and shrubs.

• Trains, orients, instructs and leads subordinates on assignments; develops plans and policies to facilitate the implementation of landscaping programs; determines property maintenance needs and orders supplies, materials and equipment when required including flowers, trees, shrubs, sod, sprinkler parts, chemicals, and tools; repairs hand and power tools; assist in the planning and estimating landscaping projects; assigns and controls the flow of work; maintains records and writes reports; writes performance evaluations, and recommends appropriate personnel actions; performs special projects as required.

• Knowledgeable in OSHA in standards as it pertains to Landscaping maintenance.

• Uses common safety techniques, equipment and supplies to assure safe handling of equipment, tools, supplies and chemicals; monitors others, and uses proper safety equipment to perform all work.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manages and motivates staff (including: hiring, performance management, and recognition duties).

• Assists in the assessment of staffing needs and recruitment.

• Train, direct and appraise staff.

• Make daily schedules for proper manpower utilization.

• Issues written and oral instructions; assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.

Language, Math and Reasoning

• Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

• Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurements, volume and distance.

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING:

Language, Math and Reasoning:

• Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING:

• Equivalent to an Associate degree related to landscape management; and three (3) years work experience related to landscape maintenance in an industrial or public facility setting, including two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

• Drivers License

COMPUTER SKILLS:

• Basic typing and word processing skills
