Our Project Review, Current Planning Section is responsible for approving private land and land use development projects. In support of these operations, and the advancement of the County’s General Plan, the Current Planning Manager participates in and oversees the development of planning guidance, codes, and zoning ordinances as well as long-range land use policies and procedures. Additionally, the Current Planning Manager supports the Deputy Director of Planning by:Directly supervising two Planning Supervisors, a Senior Environmental Health Specialist, and a Secretary
Overseeing implementation of the Section’s budget
Managing consultants and contract administration
Coordinating Section work with other Divisions of Permit Sonoma; various County departments; and local, state, and federal agencies and boards
Recommending and implementing policy and procedural changes for the betterment of the County's strategic and regulatory frameworkTo effectively support the Deputy Director, our ideal candidate for Current Planning Manager is an open minded, perceptive, and proactive leader with a clear vision for the future and has:Experience working with environmental compliance and considerations in the design, location, and construction of public projects and private development, including residential and commercial projects
Extensive knowledge of California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and other local, state, and federal land use guidelines and their effective application on development projects
Strategic leadership abilities, with a track record of successfully mentoring professional and support staff, building teams, and meeting work plan goals, priorities, and deadlines
Strong project management skills, with the ability to identify the critical path, track progress, and achieve project milestones in a timely manner
An aptitude for building effective working relationships with the public, regulatory agencies, other entities, and elected officials
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate through verbal presentations and written reports
