The General Services Department seeks an experienced Heavy Equipment Technician for a full-time position within Fleet Operations Division. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a dynamic team that is recognized as one of the top leading government fleets in the Nation. Over the last five years the Fleet Operations Division has earned 26 international, national, state, regional and local awards.
Heavy Equipment Technicians diagnose, maintain, overhaul, and repair heavy construction equipment, trucks, emergency and law enforcement vehicles, and generators which are powered by a variety of fuel sources including diesel, gasoline, electric, and alternative fuels.
The ideal candidate will possess:
Extensive experience diagnosing and repairing trucks and off-road equipment including loaders, backhoes, and trailers
Thorough knowledge regarding the maintenance and repair of diesel equipment particulate matter, emission devices, and systems
Experience performing California Highway Patrol (CHP) Biennial Inspection of Terminals (BIT) inspections
Experience with computerized maintenance and repair software systems
The ability to perform acetylene, arc, and electric welding on various types of metals
Strong written and oral communication skills
