Sonoma County Regional Parks is hiring multiple Park Program Assistant - Extra-Help positions in the Community Engagement Division. In this division, Park Program Assistants (PPAs) will support, develop, and/or deliver environmental education, interpretative, recreation, and outreach programs and special events for a variety of audiences. PPA's may also assist with oversight of recreational facilities and visitor centers. They will assist with program evaluation, serve as a lead for interns and/or volunteers, and perform other program and visitor center administrative duties.Note: One or more years of experience providing programming in parks in the areas of outreach, environmental education and/or recreational programs is required to become a PPA.
Ideal Park Program Assistant candidates will have experience coordinating, implementing, and leading quality educational and recreational programming for diverse audiences and have an understanding of principles related to equity, diversity, inclusion, and authentic community engagement. The ideal candidates will also possess:Experience coordinating events and representing organizations at meetings
Organization skills necessary to manage multiple priorities
A positive and adaptable mindset and be self-motivated and goal-orientated
A passion for connecting people to parks and the outdoors with a multicultural perspective
Strong written and verbal communication skills including speaking in front of groups, on the phone, and via emailEXTRA-HELP EMPLOYMENT
Extra-help employees relieve or augment permanent staff. Temporary, extra-help employees are not in the classified civil service and do not have property rights to permanently allocated positions. In addition, they do not receive most employee benefits such as: long-term disability insurance coverage; accrual of vacation; participation in the County retirement program; or eligibility to take promotional examinations. Temporary, extra-help employees are limited in their employment to a maximum of one calendar year. These employees must be off of work for three months before they can be re-employed on an extra help basis. Extra-help employees who meet the eligibility requirements may qualify for a County contribution toward medical coverage.Salary is negotiable within the established range.
