Join the County of Sonoma as an Extra-Help Payroll Clerk with the Department of Health Services!Starting salary up to $30.14/hour depending upon experience.
As a Payroll Clerk, you will be responsible for assisting in processing and updating 750+ employee timecards and maintaining the employee information database. Along with three full-time Payroll Clerks, this extra-help position is responsible for:Processing and maintaining personnel actions for the department's employees
Analyzing and evaluating department payroll issues
Updating Leaves of Absence records
Reviewing timecards
Tracking hour limitations
Onboarding new hires
Applying State/Federal leave and disability laws, memoranda of understanding, Board resolutions, and other complex payroll policies and procedures that govern employees' salary and benefits
Communicating with all levels of staff regarding payroll questions
The ideal candidate will possess:The ability to effectively complete detailed tasks, while working in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
A talent for accurately process electronic time-keeping and payroll data within evolving deadlines
Strong communication skills, with the ability to professionally and effectively interact and engage with diverse audiences in one-on-one and group settings
The ability to interpret and explain complicated policies, laws, and personnel agreements Knowledge of applicable employment regulations, such as Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) wage and hour laws, Family Medical Leave Act, and California Family Rights Act
Experience utilizing Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, and Human Resource Information Systems
Solid organizational skills, attention to detail, and consistent follow-throughEXTRA-HELP EMPLOYMENTExtra-help employees relieve or augment permanent staff. Temporary, extra-help employees are not in the classified civil service and do not have property rights to permanently allocated positions. In addition, they do not receive most employee benefits such as: long-term disability insurance coverage; accrual of vacation; participation in the County retirement program; or eligibility to take promotional examinations. Temporary, extra-help employees are limited in their employment to a maximum of one calendar year. These employees must be off of work for three months before they can be re-employed on an extra help basis. Extra-help employees who meet the eligibility requirements may qualify for a County contribution toward medical coverage.Salary is negotiable within the established range.
