The Facebook Connectivity team builds the bleeding edge technology that will allow Facebook to connect our next billion users. Through the Telecom Infra Project (TIP), Facebook has partnered with over 500 global technology and telecom leaders to design, build, and deploy new telecom technologies. Our projects are aimed at delivering connectivity to people without access to the internet and increasing connectivity for people with access to existing, but inadequate network infrastructures. The Connectivity Deployment team works closely with cross-functional partners to support engineering, testing, and deployments across the globe. Deployment Engineers are responsible for designing and implementing connectivity solutions in partnership with OEMs and network operators. This role will involve extensive lab work, testing, and validation of new technologies within Facebook Connectivity and TIP programs. Candidate will work closely with OEM, ODM, Operator, and SI partners. Candidate will contribute to reference architectures, and support end-to-end testing, lab, and field trials.

  • Configuration and testing of wireless systems (4G LTE, 5G, Wi-Fi) in lab and field trial environments, with focus on cellular core network elements (MSC, IMS, MME, SGW/PGW, OCS, PCRF, etc.).
  • Configuration and integration of RAN radio equipment and backhaul technologies such as microwave/satellite with EPC core network.
  • Testing and validation of features such as LTE mobility management, inter RAT handoffs, roaming architecture, CSFB, VoLTE, etc.
  • Comprehensive wireless and TCP/IP network design and implementation.
  • Work cross functionally with partners, project management, network, software, and hardware engineers to build network designs to solve connectivity problems.
  • Develop requirements and implementation plans with business partners and executive teams.
  • Build and integrate connectivity solutions with operator/ISP networks.
  • Deploy and operate testbeds to test wireless connectivity solutions.
  • Provide direction and oversight of contractors to execute tests.
  • Proactively contribute to and maintain technical and training documentation.
  • Develop automation and tooling as needed to support connectivity deployment initiatives.
  • Responsible for radio and transport solution design, integration and acceptance testing.
  • Development of acceptance test plans, translation of product & operator requirements into testable requirements.
  • Coordinate and manage integration, troubleshooting, validation of solution. Report technical readiness of solution prior to lab/field trials.
  • Identify improvements in test execution, test automation.
  • Ability to travel internationally, up to 25% of the time.
  • Work closely with partners and operators in pre-commercialization acceptance testing field and market trials.


  • Solid understanding and working knowledge of system and infrastructure level LTE/5GNR RAN technologies, including air interface and call flows, 3GPP Rls 15/16
  • Understanding of O-RAN, TIP and 3GPP disaggregated concepts, including decomposition of functionality across elements and split architectures
  • Understanding and validation of 5G-NR maMIMO
  • Understanding of fronthaul networking concepts, including IPv6/IPv4, IEEE1588/SyncE, eCPRI, QoS, NetConf, YANG models, Delay management
  • Familiarity with split-architectures and interfaces such as split7.2, eCPRI, Open FrontHaul, F1
  • Working experience in a lab and/or field integration deployment environment
  • Understanding of Linux platforms
  • Analytical, problem-solving, negotiation and cross-functional management skills with a clear focus under pressure
  • Experience working across time zones and teams


  • Start-up or technical infrastructure experience
  • Experience with cloud-based controllers, orchestrators, carrier Wi-Fi offload, LTE-U and Private LTE
  • Experience with network deployments in emerging markets
  • Familiarity with software stacks, installation, configuration cloud infra of 5G, RU/DU/CU elements
  • Familiarity with O-RAN Radio Intelligent Controllers (RIC) and ONF SD-RAN concepts, Self-Organizing Networks, interfaces, implementation and validation
  • Familiarity with testers such as Viavi TM500/E500, Keysight O-RAN Studio, Calnex, including test configuration and automation
