Safety Support AssociateJob ID6080LocationSLAC - Menlo Park, CAFull-TimeRegularSLAC Job PostingsPosition overview:Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL), a SLAC Directorate at Stanford University, is a national scientific user facility providing synchrotron radiation for research in biology, chemistry, engineering, environmental science, material science, medicine, and physics. SSRL operates and maintains the 3GeV electron storage ring SPEAR3, the associated injector facility, and synchrotron radiation beam lines on SPEAR3.SSRL is seeking an outstanding Safety Support Associate who will be part of a dynamic scientific support group. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide support in handling / shipping and receiving of scientific samples and perform other Science and Engineering coordination efforts as assigned. This position reports to the SSRL ESH ManagerYour specific responsibilities include:

Support scientific and research programs on the SSRL experimental floor.

Shipping and receiving of scientific samples –knowledge of hazardous materials and DOT / IATA regulations preferred

Initiate purchase requisitions in support of scientific safety program and manage invoices.

Assist with general safety infrastructure maintenance and provide support as needed

Acquire and maintain tools, equipment, and chemicals associated with experimental or engineering projects.

Liaise between researchers, students, technical staff, scientists, vendors, and other university staff; serve as a resource, providing practical guidance.

To be successful in this position you will bring:

Associate degree or certificate of completion in a related engineering or related scientific discipline, or three years of equivalent work experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

General understanding of scientific principles. Demonstrated performance to use knowledge and skills when needed.

Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.

Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work

Ability to write clear documentation, perform administrative duties, and research protocol maintenance related to supporting research studies and/or scientific/engineering projects.

Experience with software applications, systems, or programs relevant for the job.

Ability to communicate, liaise, and work with staff, students, faculty, and outside vendors.

In addition, preferred requirements include:

DOT / IATA certification

The expected pay range for this position is $90,000 - $113,000 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
