Job Description for Assistant Scientific Researcher - Necropsy
The primary responsibility of this position is to support necropsy activities for Pathologist-approved projects within gRED. This includes:
Recording scientific observations during gross examinations
Excising tissue samples including microdissection
Collecting fluids for analysis
Administration of compounds required for designated procedures
Performing perfusion techniques
Freezing tissues
Gross photography
Quality control of work and entering data in the department database
Ordering / stocking supplies and performing general maintenance duties in the necropsy laboratories
Performing daily safety inspections of the laboratories
Essential Job Duties:
Animal handling and necropsy experience; proficient in comprehensive necropsy on rodents.
Manual dexterity for dissection techniques.
Visual acuity to see small details during specimen examinations.
Adherence to established policies, procedures and safety requirements.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, management and clients.
Requirements:
B.S. degree in animal sciences or similar field required. 1-2 years recent experience performing the procedures described above is preferred. AALAS certification is desired. Proven technical ability, strong interpersonal skills, excellent communication (both oral and written), dependable, organized, detail-oriented, and the ability to multitask to successfully to complete several tasks at a time in a dynamic, fast-paced workplace are required. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. Work hours are commensurate with business needs.
