Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated leader for the Consumer Insights function within WDC’s Consumer Solutions business unit reporting to the Sr Director, Strategy. The Consumer Insights leader will play a strong role in strategic product and marketing decisions central to the growth of Western Digital's Consumer Solutions business unit by partnering closely with product and marketing teams. The candidate is also expected to drive consumer trends that influence our strategy. The role is fast-paced, unstructured, and comes with leadership visibility, who often make meaningful strategic decisions based on the analysis.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborating closely with business managers, product (software/hardware) managers, user experience, strategy, and marketing teams to create actionable consumer research that addresses strategic questions to drive data-informed decisions.
  • Managing a wide variety of custom primary research studies from methodology design through final analysis and reporting.
  • Collecting, managing and reporting insights and trends using various secondary and primary research tools, including tracking studies, online surveys, focus groups, ethnographies, one-on-one interviews, analytics etc.
  • Identifying, onboarding and managing relationships with new and existing vendors.
  • Disseminating and actioning insights effectively to various teams and levels across the organization.
  • Owning every step of the research process, including designing research and instruments, monitoring translations, data collection and processing, and reporting, presenting, and activating results.
  • Identifying, managing and allocating market research budgets aligned with our strategy and focus areas.

Qualifications

  • Extensive quantitative and qualitative primary research experience in US and international markets, leading to deep understanding of consumers.
  • 8+ years of primary research experience, including some on the vendor side.
  • Proven track record of generating, sharing and championing insights to various levels of the organization.
  • High attention to detail as well as the ability to see the big picture.
  • Ability to deal successfully with ambiguity, limited resources and time constraints
  • In depth knowledge of consumer electronics and competitive landscape

Demonstrated track record where he/she has operated independently and efficiently to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously

Qualifications:

  • Education, Certification, and/or Licenses and Experience: Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, accounting, engineering, or any other technical or quantitative discipline

Computer, Software, Tools, and Specific Knowledge:

  • Advanced PowerPoint skills, with experience in presenting complex insights to senior leadership
  • Proficiency with all other MS office applications (i.e. Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Data savviness, with the ability to drill down and identify key drivers and communicate insightful, actionable recommendations

Interpersonal and Other:

  • Driven, self-starter with ability to work both independently and in a team setting
  • Comfortable openly sharing and debating ideas
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication
  • Able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others who may have ongoing competing priorities and viewpoints, including company employees in other countries
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information
  • Has self-awareness, realistically appraises own strengths and weaknesses, and focuses on self-development
  • Able to maintain effective performance and adept at multi-tasking in a business environment that is fast-paced, constantly evolving, and where situations are sometimes ambiguous
