Description:Providence is calling a Laboratory Assistant II MA II Urgent Care (Full-Time/Day Shift) to our Providence Facey Medical Foundation in Mission Hills, CA.We are seeking a Laboratory Assistant II MA II Urgent Care who will be responsible for providing direct care to patients under the direction of the physician and/or licensed nurse.Age(s) of Patients Served: Birth and above.In this position you will:Deliver upon the service expectations of both our patients and fellow staff members by listening to their needs; engaging in positive interactions; and following through on promises made in a thoughtful, efficient, timely and courteous manner so that their total outcome is better than expected
Respect the dignity, confidentiality and privacy of patients
Work in a safe manner, adhering to general safety precautions and standards. Reports any unsafe conditions to their supervisor and/or the safety hotline
Complete Urgent Care point of care lab testing. This will include but not limited to:
Urinalysis dip, rapid strep, mono test, urine pregnancy test, PT and INR, CBC without micro, chemistry panels, and cardiac troponin
Complete the required quality controls for the Horiba, Piccolo, UA and Couag machines along with the weekly maintenance
Assist with the required API audits
Complete all Urgent Care laboratory functions of lab ordering and entering of test results
Monitor ongoing laboratory supply levels and assists with ordering of supplies as directed
Perform specimen collection as needed
Responsible for providing patient instructions as necessary for specimen collection
Maintain records and performs laboratory related clerical duties, such as coding, billing, etc.
Perform phlebotomy duties. Performs and reports waived tests as defined by CLIA.
Train new Urgent Care laboratory staff on Facey policy & procedures
Able to perform all functions for appropriate EMR documentation
Perform back office skills vital signs, BP, weight, history taking, IM/Sub Q injections, minor procedures, sterile case set-up, assist with minor procedures, autoclaving, EKG, treadmill, pulse oximetry, Accu check, make and verify appointments, call back authorized pharmacy refill prescriptions, ICD-9, CPT coding
Administer routine immunizations, injections and skin tests following verification of dosages and with appropriate documentation
Perform blood pressure checks. Informs provider of results
Assist with emergencies as needed
Provide accurate, complete, legible and timely documentation of all procedures in the medical record
Must be willing to float between Urgent Care Laboratory duties to back-office MA duties as directed
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of procedures included in the Medical Assistant & phlebotomy scope of practice
Communicate all test results, patient concerns and changes in the patient’s condition to the physician or registered nurse
Follow correct procedures for handling and disposing of biohazardous infectious waste
Perform daily and weekly environmental cleaning and equipment quality control and maintenance
Order and maintain current inventories of medication and supplies
Check for outdated medication on a monthly basis
Comply with all applicable infection control and safety procedures
Demonstrate awareness of current state, federal and local laws
Use appropriate reporting mechanisms as required by state laws
Provide open and timely communication with patients, families and their significant others:
Provide sufficient information to allow patients and their significant others to participate in the patient's car
Provide educational resources to the patient/family as appropriate as instructed by the physician or registered nurse
Demonstrate commitment to education and sharing of knowledge:
Assist in the orientation of new personnel to the Urgent Care department
Obtain ongoing education consistent with level and area of practice
Maintain current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers, Phlebotomy Licensure and other appropriate certifications
May be asked to serve as a preceptor to others. This will include but not be limited to:
Completion of an 8-hour preceptor class
Orient and train new personnel or assist in re-orienting / re-training existing personnel
Review appropriate checklist and monitor completion of specific areas
Help the orientee seek learning opportunities with a review of pertinent Policy and Procedure, observation skills, and checklist completion
Provide feedback to supervisor on areas completed and areas needing additional training
Qualifications:Required qualifications for this position includes:Graduate of school for medical assistants and certificate or Diploma/certificate from the military in Medical Specialist Course
Current California State Phlebotomy license
Current American Heart Association BLS for Health Care Providers
Two (2) years of Direct hands-on experience
Works independently with little supervision
Knows proper phlebotomy procedures and follows them
Knowledge of UR/QA requirements
Excellent communication and documentation skills essential
Ability to multi-task and deliver patient care in a fast-paced environment is

Preferred qualifications for this position include:Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
Knowledge of CLIA and laboratory Quality Control (QC) requirements
