POSITION: Food Programs Assistant / Safety Coordinator

DEPARTMENT: Food Distribution Center

SUPERVISOR: Food Distributions Programs Manager

STATUS: Non-Exempt Hourly (PT, 25 hrs. per week)

OVERVIEW:

Provides program assistance and clerical support for all food programs conducted by the Food Distribution Center and monitors safety compliance.

DUTIES:

Prepare USDA Commodities site folder materials for monthly distribution. On a daily basis total activity sheets, compile statistics, and enter data in the computer.

Prepare daily food distribution forms for USDA Commodities program.

Maintain current lists of Commodity Program participants residing at Senior Residence and individuals listed on Shut-In Delivery Routes.

Manage USDA Commodities perpetual inventory noting shipments received and disbursements issued etc

Assist Food Programs Manager in compiling and transmitting monthly activity and statistical reports for USDA Government Commodities food program.

Prepare Commodity monthly distribution schedule to disburse to Stanislaus County community agencies.

Assists with maintaining accurate records and documentation of all items received and dispersed from the Food Distribution Center.

Prepare monthly food bank receiving records, post to food bank donor file, print and send receipts and thank you letters to all donors.

In consultation with Food Programs Manager prepare updated food inventory on daily basis of products to be made available to participating agencies in the Food Bank Program.

Responsible in working directly with Food Bank Agencies in taking food orders and preparation of invoices and posting information in journals.

Receives incoming food shared maintenance fees from Food Bank member agencies, ensuring the source is recorded and kept safe until submitted to the accounting office.

Schedule appointments for the receipt of incoming shipments in coordination with Food Programs Manager.

Types program material, letters, meeting agendas, minutes etc

Receives incoming calls, answers questions, takes messages and refers individuals to appropriate departments.

Conduct site managers meeting in the absence of Food Programs Manager.

Attend monthly safety meetings and prepare safety instructional material for warehouse staff presentation.

Coordinate with warehouse maintenance the necessary safety corrections needed to meet O.S.H.A regulation compliance. All issues need to be cleared with Food Programs Manager prior to implementation.

Attend all safety training seminars.

Assist with the seasonal canned food drives; KCRA 3 Kids Can, Boy Scouts, Raleys Supermarket Holiday Drive and Community Can tree collection.

Assist in the delivery of food products to program distribution sites and pick-up of food market donations as required.

Attend all staff meetings as assigned.

Performs other duties as assigned.

All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or work experience commensurate with the duties and responsibilities required.

Must have a valid CA license.

Must be able to pass a motor vehicle check.

Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Knowledge of Salvation Army practices and organization desirable.

Must have the ability to maintain a self-motivated and self-directed schedule.

Must have the ability to address multiple projects in a time-sensitive manner.

Ability to interact with volunteers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement.

Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.

Possess self-discipline necessary to perform repetitive task without lowering the quality of work.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.

Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead

Ability to operate telephone

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Ability to hear and understand

Ability to speak clearly and concisely in fashion that others can understand.

Ability to see at distance and close range.

Ability to work outdoors, if needed, in all weather situations.
