The Office of Research supports the research community through five units: the Office of Sponsored Projects, Research Development, Office of Research Compliance Administration, Industry Alliances & Technology Commercialization and the Office of Research Business Office.Job OverviewReporting directly to the Vice Chancellor for Research, the Office of Research Business and Operations Director is responsible for managing the administrative operations of the Office of Research (OR) and Vivarium, including budgetary financial management, human resources, facilities, recharge administration, technology management, contracts and special projects. Uses sound judgement in advising senior leadership on strategic resources management including identification of multiple options to resolve complex issues. Prepares short and long range planning for operations and improvements to processes. Establishes and recommends change to policies which affect the assigned units. Formulates strategies to achieve organizational goals and objectives through the coordinated efforts of subordinate staff where failure to achieve these goals could result in additional costs and personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules. Ensures subordinate staff adhere to defined internal controls. Manages systems and procedures to protect departmental assets. Analyzes financial and resource data; prepares and summarizes information and reports.10% - Prepares short and long range planning for administrative services operations and improvements to processes. Establishes and recommends change to policies which affect the unit(s), including policies focused on diversity, inclusion and equity.5% - Develops and monitors operational and budget processes, staff FTE, recharge administration and space planning.5% - Represents the department on business affairs to the institution community.5% - Manages systems and follows procedures to protect departmental assets.5% - Special projects as assigned.Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Broad knowledge of the organization's processes, systems, protocols and procedures with a focus on budget, account and fund management, personnel and personnel policy. Broad knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, experience with accounting and payroll systems. Human resources and risk management planning. Proven skills and sound judgement to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolution. Experience advising senior leadership on strategic resource management. Proven ability to lead change management within an organization. Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence, persuade, and collaborate with all levels of staff. Skills in organization and customer service to effectively manage multiple important priorities. Proven ability to organize department work functions in an efficient and effective manner. Broad knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs. Demonstrated management, conflict resolution and leadership skills to effectively lead and motivate others. Demonstrated experience leading service oriented teams.
