SUMMARY

The Alternative High School Math Teacher is employed by John Muir Charter Schools (JMCS) and is responsible for classroom instruction of youth and young adults participating in the Rancho Cielo Youth Campus programs. Rancho Cielo and JMCS’s innovative education programs are designed to provide youth, ages 16-25, with an engaging educational experience that meets individual needs. We combine direct instruction, project work, credit recovery, life skills, technical job training and other academic experiences into a highly personalized high school classroom. These classroom activities are combined with top notch vocational training provided by Rancho Cielo. Students will receive basic training in one of 4 main vocational tracks: Culinary, Construction, Agricultural Mechanics or Auto Diesel. Rancho Cielo invests in young people who bring gifts, challenges and potential, by providing an environment that allows them to achieve success. Rancho Cielo programs create an atmosphere of acceptance, safety, mutual respect and belonging that affirms each student’s background and cultural heritage. Rancho Cielo’s mission and programs reflect the great responsibility that our campus has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community.

The academic classroom is a combination of a self-contained homeroom class along with subject specific classes in mathematics; the instructor monitors student progress in all subject areas for their homeroom and is charged with mathematics instruction for all students on campus. JMCS provides basic curriculum and support, but the instructor is held responsible for creating a dynamic, engaging, rigorous, and supportive experience for our students. This position will be supported by Rancho Cielo staff who provide vocational training, work experience and case management. JMCS staff on site work collaboratively with the Rancho Cielo staff to support the success of the students. All JMCS staff are engaged in the classroom; providing direct instruction, small group instruction, support for credit recovery and administrative support.

The position is full-time salaried position. The school operates on an 11-month, Semester calendar running August through June, with holidays and breaks. This position will report to the JMCS Site Coordinator and all staff are expected to be active and cooperative members of the JMCS and Rancho Cielo communities.
