Position: Sr. Payroll Supervisor/Lead

Department: Payroll (Ag Industry)

Location: Salinas, CA

JOB SUMMARY

The Sr. Payroll Supervisor/Lead will be responsible for supervising all payroll processes and verifying accuracy of payrolls across multiple operations. This individual manages effective internal/external client relationships within own area of responsibility, and builds client relationships in the wider group or unit.

JOB DUTIES

Maintains and provides confidential payroll information by answering questions and requests regularly with management, supervisors, forepersons, and team members.

Thorough knowledge and understanding of wage and hour laws and regulations in order to efficiently process payroll.

Updates HRIS and payroll system records by reviewing and entering changes in exemptions, insurance changes, deductions, paid-time not worked, status, and pay; calculating vacation earned.

Meets payroll operational standards by contributing information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying system improvements.

Meets payroll financial standards by providing weekly reports; identifying variances; implementing corrective actions.

Prepares pay by verifying time records; calculating and producing checks or electronic transfers.

Balances payroll accounts by auditing information; identifying and resolving discrepancies.

Manage compliance for unclaimed, lost, stolen, damaged payroll checks.

Determines payroll liabilities by entering federal and state income and social security tax information, 401k transfer and direct deposits, wage assignments and garnishments.

Fulfills wage garnishment requirements by completing forms; adjusting payroll records, documenting and transmitting withholdings; negotiating with collection agencies to convert garnishments to wage assignments.

Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Performs other duties as assigned

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Assign goals for performance and deadlines that are in accordance with company’s mission

Organizing workflow, delegating, and ensuring staff understand individual responsibilities

Oversee employee productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching when necessary

Ensure all operations are executed efficiently so as to ensure profitability and sustainability

Oversee the distribution of paychecks or arranges direct deposit programs

Superintend timekeeping and personnel records, including performance evaluations

Maintain compliance to company policies, procedures, and safety practices and addressing disciplinary actions when required

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Bilingual – English/Spanish preferred

Ability to perform computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division correctly; solve practical problems by choosing appropriately from a variety of mathematical techniques such as formulas and percentages.

Ability to work occasional Saturdays and evenings

Ability to efficiently present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees, clients and customers of the organization.
