Clean and disinfect restroom and shower room fixtures, air vents, shower curtains, drains. Empty wastebaskets, recycle bins and other receptacles and empty them at designated locations. Wash glass and trim on entrance doors. High dust inside of building and immediate outdoor by building entrances. Receive and stack custodial supplies. Report items that need repair. Rearrange or move furniture, supplies and miscellaneous equipment, as directed.Clean woodwork, light fixtures, venetian blinds, radiators, grills, ducts, walls, blackboards, washing machines, dryers and other types of equipment and surfaces. Wax and/or polish furniture.Perform work such as: refinishing floors (vinyl tile, linoleum, concrete, wood, etc.); , carpet and upholstered furniture shampooing; building detail cleaning projects such as sweeping, mopping, waxing, dusting, high dusting, scrubbing, polishing, etc. and also ensuring proper use of cleaning chemicals.MiscellaneousClean carpets, upholstered furniture, draperies and other designated materials. Make beds, change linens, towels, etc. Wash interior windows and exterior, where accessible without a ladder. Dilute cleaning compounds according to directions indicated on labels. Read and understand information and warning signs. May work with and direct activities of summer temporary custodians and keep supervisors informed of all work completed. May interact with campus staff/visitors regarding assigned duties.Building SecurityLock and unlock buildings according to written instructions. Carry out emergency procedures (communicating with Fire and Police personnel), and evacuate buildings in the event of fire or other disaster.QUALIFICATIONSRequired Qualifications Ability to safeguard keys issued, which are necessary for assigned areas. Ability to work independently without close supervision. Ability to be part of a team and foster teamwork by maintaining a cooperative atmosphere and effective working relationships with a diverse population from various cultural backgrounds. Ability to operate vacuum, floor scrubber and polisher, and other cleaning equipment. Skill in prioritizing workload to meet daily schedule. Ability to follow through and carry out assignments. Ability to effectively communicate and follow oral and written instructions, read manuals, signs and labels. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those within PPDO and other individuals within the University as necessary to successfully conduct assigned tasks and work. Ability to implement a customer service approach, with a commitment to high ethical standards. Ability to take initiative, organize, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved. Ability to maintain acceptable work habits, punctuality, and regularity of attendance; ability to arrive at and leave work on time, observe break and lunch period. Ability to carry and operate technology, including tablets and cell phones along with the use of programs and applications. Knowledge of proper and safe use of custodial equipment, chemicals, tools, etc. Knowledge of procedures related to building safety. Ability to communicate effectively and work harmoniously with a diverse group of individuals at all levels of the organization directly or indirectly involved with task and work assignments. Ability to accommodate changing priorities and complete tasks despite intermittent interruptions. Ability to operationalize and incorporate the concepts of sustainability into daily work efforts.Special Conditions of Employment Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check. Must possess a valid license to drive in the state of California. Must have the abilities to: operate vacuum, floor scrubber, and polisher; use cleaning chemical compounds; perform essential custodial duties including dumping bags into dumpster or moving equipment and materials with or without accommodations. Must be able to effectively communicate and follow oral and written instructions in English. Will be required to complete Title IX (Sexual Harassment) training every two years. Per the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA), this position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter. The selected candidate will be required to report known or suspected child abuse or neglect as defined by CANRA and will be required to sign a Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse prior to commencing employment.
