Responsibilities:
- Prepare and organize pathology slides for digital imaging
- Operate slide scanners and related imaging equipment to capture high-quality digital images
- Verify image quality and accuracy, ensuring all slides are properly scanned and stored
- Maintain accurate digital records of scanned slides for clinical and research use
- Collaborate with pathologists and lab staff to support timely and accurate patient diagnoses
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic technical issues with imaging systems
Equipment Operation and Maintenance Responsibilities:
- Perform daily startup and shutdown procedures for slide scanners and imaging systems
- Conduct routine cleaning and calibration of imaging equipment to ensure consistent quality
- Monitor and replace consumables (e.g., slide trays, scanner components) as needed
- Perform regular software updates and assist with troubleshooting technical issues
- Keep logs of maintenance activities, system errors, and repairs
- Coordinate with vendors or IT for preventive maintenance and service calls
- Ensure data storage systems for digital images are functioning and backed up properly
- Maintain organized slide libraries, both physical and digital, to ensure accessibility
- Data Recording and Documentation:
Compliance and Safety:
Follow all laboratory safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with team members to support ongoing projects and research.
Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues regarding lab activities and findings.
Additional Duties:
- Assist with workflow optimization by suggesting improvements in imaging processes
- Provide basic training or guidance to other staff on slide handling and digital imaging procedures
- Support quality assurance initiatives, including periodic audits of digital images
- Ensure compliance with lab safety and HIPAA regulations in all imaging activities
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to discussions on patient care improvement through technology
- Assist with special projects or research studies involving digital pathology
- Collaborate with the IT team to integrate imaging data into laboratory information systems (LIS)
This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
