Job Title Director of Programs

AGENCY OVERVIEW
Founded in 1976, WTLC is the oldest domestic violence program in Orange County and the third oldest in the nation. Originally established as an emergency shelter, WTLC has since evolved into a multiservice organization dedicated to ending the cycle of violence through a trauma-informed, survivor-driven approach. Today, we are equipped to respond to the nuanced needs of survivors of both domestic violence and human trafficking, and we continue our tradition of evolving to meet their needs through the constant pursuit of innovative programs and evidence-based best practices.
Our programs fall under three major categories: Bridge Housing, Supportive Services, and Community Education and Advocacy. Through our three-fold approach, WTLC strives to meet the needs of survivors of any gender, their children, and survivors often not served by other programs. Uniquely tailored to the needs of survivors and their families, our programs rooted in the understanding that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to safety, recovery, and self-sufficiency.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Programs works closely with the CEO and program staff to help shape and implement the strategic vision for WTLC programming ensuring that the organization’s programs are innovative and strategic, and aligned with our core belief that survivors are able to reflect on their past traumas and decide for themselves what their healing should look like. For nearly 45 years, WTLC has taken an intersectional, inclusive approach to building a community where all those who are impacted by trauma and abuse are healthy and safe.
The Director of Programs designs and implements monitoring, evaluation, and learning processes with the goal to share and integrate knowledge and to enhance programmatic results and impact. This position leads the organization’s program department and supervises a team of five program staff leaders and multiple consultants and contractors. The Director of Programs is a member of both the General Leadership and Senior Leadership Team and provides oversight for the organization’s strategic direction, team-building, implementation of policies and practices, budgeting, and planning processes.
The Director of Programs works closely with the Advancement Department to raise funds from individuals and institutional funders. This position represents WTLC is public settings, provides leadership/ engages in community collaborative groups, and provided timely opinion and analysis to the Senior Leadership Team, staff, and stakeholders on issues impacting abuse and violence against individuals.
Lastly, the Director of Programs is closely involved in designing and managing a healthy organizational culture centered on WTLC’s values.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Program Leadership & Oversight
Provide leadership and oversight of WTLC’s programmatic efforts including the implementation of tactics identified in the 3-year Strategic Plan
Leverage and steward strategic partnerships and relationships with community partners that help expand WTLC’s program offerings
Provide programmatic expertise in multiple areas including housing, clinical, legal, and prevention work relating to domestic violence and human trafficking
Identify priorities, gaps, and trends in program areas and make recommendations accordingly
Represent and speak on behalf of the organization in multiple public settings
Create and support efforts to document the progress, successes, and problems of projects, reporting to funders on programmatic work
Team & Organizational Management
Lead the program team by providing guidance, support, and direct supervision of staff and contractors. Create opportunities for team members’ leadership and professional development and ensure that the program team members are supported, valued, and motivated to produce high-quality work
Recruit, develop, coach, and retain high-performance team members, ensuring they are able to elevate their level of responsibility, program priorities, and performance
Lead annual planning for programs and projects for the development of the Annual Work Plan that is aligned with the organizational strategic plan
Participate in staff and team meetings, present in board meetings on a regular basis
Engage in other activities as needed or assigned to successfully move the organization’s mission forward
Development & Communications
In conjunction with the Advancement Department, hold a leading role in resource development and creating a culture of philanthropy that strengthens WTLC’s programs and relationships in the following ways:
Work closely with the Director of Advancement to raise funds from individual donors and institutional funders by cultivating current and new relationships with funders and soliciting and stewarding their investments
Assist with the development of grant and contract proposals that support the strategic programmatic positioning of the organization
Work closely with the communications staff to develop content for multiple outlets such as social media and other PR channels in order to share information about the organization’s programmatic achievements and activities

Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years’ experience with progressively more responsibility managing multiple program initiatives within a nonprofit setting
Bachelor’s degree; graduate level degree is a plus
Experience supervising staff, solid understanding of recruiting staff, leading effective team encouraging high levels of staff performance, evaluating and addressing performance issues
Passion for and knowledge of issues and challenges faced by survivors of trauma and abuse
Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills; ability to innovate, with capacity to create or seize opportunities to improve program effectiveness and organizational outcomes
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; including confidence and comfort with public speaking in front of variety of audiences
Excellent computer and technology skills including proficiency with MS Office 365 and other web-based databases and platforms
40-Hour Domestic Violence Training Certification (can complete during introductory period if needed)
Has not been a participant of WTLC services for at least three (3) years
Possession of a current and valid CA driver’s license, a vehicle, liability insurance meeting CA state minimum requirements and an acceptable driving record
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
This is a full-time, exempt position, with a salary range of $80,000 – $95,000 annually. Salary offer will be dependent of experience
We provide 2 weeks paid vacation to start which increases over time (3 weeks after 2 years, 4 weeks after 5 years, 5 weeks after 10 years); 2 wellness paid days, 1 civic engagement paid day, and 11 paid holidays
Alternate work schedule (4 days/ 10 hours) option available

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Alternate work schedule (4/10) or regular (5/8) schedule, flexible to work evenings and weekends, as needed. Regularly required to sit and use hands and fingers; intact vision abilities required. Occasionally required to lift and/or move heavy objects.
