Maxar is currently seeking an Electromagnetic Interference and Electromagnetic Compatibility Engineer to join our team in Palo Alto, CA or to work remotely. A top candidate has strong skills in the theory and practical application EMC/EMI/ESD and charging phenomena in space.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate unit and spacecraft electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
    • Review of EMC testing data and anomalies
    • Cavity analysis
    • Launch vehicle and Launch base compatibly analysis
    • Co-orbit spacecraft compatibility assessment
    • Cable EMC considerations
    • Faraday cage maintenance
  • Determine compliance with standards such as, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-1541, MIL-STD-1512, MIL-HDBK-419A, NASA TP2361, NASA CR4759, NASA-HDBK-4002a, and NASA-HDBK-4001, etc.
  • Evaluate spacecraft charging
  • Evaluate unit and spacecraft electrostatic discharge (ESD)
  • Evaluate Solar Array charging
  • Determine most efficient, yet sufficiently thorough method of solving problems
  • Generate and evaluate compliance to environmental requirements
  • Participate in research, design, development, analysis and evaluation of components, systems and packages for spacecraft flight operation and testing
  • Process analytical models to obtain responses to launch, in-orbit operation, test, and ground handling environments, including definition of test requirements, design of test configuration, administration of tests, and writing test reports
  • Works on Space Environments and other related problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors such as cost, quality, reliability, manufacturability, impact to schedule, and process improvement
  • Ensure all inputs are understood and clearly communicate requirements and analysis outputs


Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be a U.S citizen or permanent resident
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, EMC, physics or related engineering or science discipline. Four additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related work experience
  • Experience with EMI/EMC
  • Proficiency in the use of computer aided design tools (such as Creo)


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with NASCAP
  • Familiarity with industry best practices
  • Understanding of charging in GEO, LEO, and interplanetary environments
  • Good verbal and written communication, organization, project/time management, and leadership skills are essential, as well as attention to detail
