Maxar is currently seeking world class / industry leading engineering talent to join the Flight Assurance Organization at our Maxar Space facility in Palo Alto, CA. This is a technical leadership position reporting to the VP Mission Assurance, head of Flight Assurance. You will provide senior technical leadership across all programs to ensure the design, performance, reliability, and quality of every Maxar built satellite meets the expectation of its customers and provides a value that our existing and potential customers will value in considering future procurements.

Duties will include:

  • Reviews and certifies the flight readiness of every spacecraft and its component hardware
  • Escalation authority for disposition of MRB issues with unresolved root cause.
  • Provides senior representation for major spacecraft reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, FRR, etc); provide input to solutions during early stages of implementation and design to increase technical strength maximizing likelihood of mission success
  • Evaluates acceptability of changes to mission critical hardware designs
  • Reviews and approve technical disclosures to the insurance industry to ensure adequacy and consistency amongst programs
  • Provide senior technical leadership on issues or anomalies impacting mission requirements or customer expectations that cannot be successfully resolved by program engineering teams.
  • Provides leadership in major failure review boards (FRB) and material review boards (MRB) for efficient resolution
  • Act as chairperson or subject matter expert on Independent Design Review Committees for design reviews of component hardware in development.
  • Provide independent technical assessments to Senior Executives and Program Management Offices (PMO) in the area of EE design, manufacturing and performance
  • Provides consultation to engineering organizations to ensure proposed technical solutions are consistent with the Maxar vision.
  • Provides an independent assessment for any engineer, or program
  • Advocate for best engineering practices and best solutions; Invest in mentorship to achieve the Mission Assurance vision.
  • Collaborate with Product Management team to ensure new IRAD products meet the technical and operational needs for our fleet
  • Defines policy for minimum test and verification processes for Maxar spacecraft and component hardware
  • Ensures orbital anomalies are adequately investigated and resolved.
  • Ensures implications of any orbital anomalies on one spacecraft are assessed and corrective actions implemented throughout the on-orbit fleet, factory, and product lines, as appropriate

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and be willing and able to obtain a U.S. government security clearance
  • Minimum of 15 years of related work experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, engineering, or other field relevant to Aerospace
  • World class or industry leading skills in one of the following areas
    • Spacecraft systems engineering, spacecraft architecture, and spacecraft operations
    • Space Environments, parts, materials, and processes
    • Electrical engineering design of power electronics, digital electronics
    • RF/Microwave Communication designs for spacecraft
  • Significant experience in complex Material Review Boards (program level investigations) and Failure Review Boards (company level investigations).
  • Familiarity with Spacecraft Control Electronics, Power Electronics, RF/Microwave Communications, Sensors, actuators, mechanisms, and other spacecraft systems
  • Can demonstrate skill in risk identification and risk mitigation plans
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • Current/active U.S. security clearance
