Maxar is currently seeking a Thermal Test Engineer to join our Thermal Subsystem team in Palo Alto, CA. At Maxar, we are excited to have a multitude of programs, including joining NASA in exploring the cosmos and putting people back on the moon!

In this role, you will be responsible for preparing for and executing spacecraft-level thermal vacuum tests and maintaining the safety of the spacecraft at all times . You will serve a critical role in the verification of spacecraft design and expertise.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with chamber operators, thermal engineers, and other spacecraft personnel to successfully coordinate test activities.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to develop test instrumentation documents and memos.
  • Perform pre-test checkouts of test instrumentation.
  • Perform spacecraft heater cycling, sensitivity, and verification tests and other thermal tests as needed.
  • Follow test procedures, obtain required sign-offs for various test phases, and complete test data sheets and reports.
  • Support other subsystem test engineers as they perform spacecraft tests.
  • Utilize in-house software for plotting and monitoring test data in real-time, as well as historically.
  • Maintain spacecraft temperatures within desired parameters.
  • Set and monitor test alarms and react appropriately to alarms as needed.
  • Ensure spacecraft safety at all times during tests.
  • Develop and maintain Excel spreadsheets for collecting, monitoring and analyzing test data.
  • Maintain test logbook and provide shift passdowns.


Minimum Requirements:
  • Must = or permanent resident
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field. Four additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in thermal testing or other related experience
  • Ability to accommodate spacecraft thermal vacuum tests that typically last approximately 30 days
  • Ability to accommodate day, swing and/or graveyard shifts

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in spacecraft-level thermal vacuum testing
  • Experience in thermal design, analysis, and/or testing
  • College coursework in heat transfer
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills and attention-to-detail
  • Unbridled enthusiasm for the endless possibilities of space exploration and cutting-edge technology advancement
