Maxar is currently seeking a Printed Circuit Board Designer to join our team in Palo Alto, CA. In this role, you will work in a collaborative team of highly-skilled engineers to develop Printed Circuit Board (PCB) designs that are part of highly-reliable power subsystems for use in Aerospace applications. You will work on the design and layout of rigid and flex circuits, including accurately completing all documentation. You will interface directly with Electrical, Mechanical, and Manufacturing Engineers to develop preliminary parts placements eventually leading to full-up designs using Cadence Electrical Computer-Aided Design (ECAD) software. All documentation, including fab and assembly drawings, will be done in the Cadence Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tool suite.

Responsibilities:

  • With inputs from engineering, create schematic drawings and PCB layouts and design verification checks
  • Work with engineers for parts placements, and routing that satisfy design requirements and adhere to IPC and company standards
  • Work with Cadence physical and electrical design constraints for high voltage and current requirements
  • Create layer stack-ups that meet all design requirements and interface with PCB vendors as required
  • Work within volumetric constraints defined by Mechanical Engineers to develop optimal layouts
  • Interface with Manufacturing Engineers to ensure designs are highly manufacturable and meet company reliability requirements
  • Create full documentation packages and manage release process into companywide Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system, Team Center
  • Support creation and management of the company's component library and support part librarian
  • Manage all Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and other documentation changes related to all PCB designs
  • Create and manage the 3D models required by Mechanical Engineers


Minimum Requirements
  • or permanent resident
  • High school diploma
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience using Cadence Concept HDL schematic and Allegro Layout design software
  • Experience with high-density multilayer board designs, with a mix of high power and digital circuitry
  • Layout experience with high frequency Radio Frequency (RF) circuits and power supply circuits
  • Well experienced with via designs (buried, blind)
  • Good understanding of PCB fabrication and assembly processes
  • Familiar with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experienced with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Good communication skills with the ability to interface and clearly communicate with many different technical disciplines


Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree
  • 5+ years of related technical experience
  • Experience developing and designing for manufacturing of PCBs deployed in space environments
  • Knowledge of PCB failure modes and reliability in extreme environments
  • Experience developing IPC class 2 and 3 boards
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional technical teams
  • Ability to participate in schematic and design reviews
  • Knowledge of Creo, SolidWorks or similar MCAD tools
  • Electronics packaging experience in addition to engineering principles related to basic circuits
  • Mechanical design and drafting experience
