Maxar is currently seeking a Solar Array Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Solar Array team in Palo Alto, CA. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, analysis and testing of solar array system and subsystem components. You will collaborate with an experienced team of engineers and technicians to complete a solar power subsystem from design to flight.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for solar array assembly or subassembly. Design or modify hardware as required to meet new requirements. Perform analyses and tests to qualify hardware and document qualification efforts
  • Generate, modify and release specifications, procedures and drawings
  • Generate and conduct solar array design reviews with internal and external customers
  • Develop and manage project schedules
  • Generate and implement product roadmap
  • Manage development and qualification projects
  • Manage vendor and external procured products
  • Design, fabricate and validate fixtures and tooling to support manufacturing activities
  • Mentor junior engineers and supervise engineering work
  • Support day-to-day operation of the floor by providing guidance and problem resolution
  • Lead failure analysis for any manufacturing or engineering related issues. Disposition and close non-conformance reports and implement corrective actions
  • Support process improvement efforts across all areas of factory


Minimum Requirements
  • or permanent resident
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering. Four additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Proficiency in Creo or similar computer aided design tools such as Solidworks
  • Ability to perform engineering design and failure analysis


Preferred Qualifications
  • Aerospace and manufacturing experience
  • Familiar with all functional roles of an engineering and manufacturing organization
  • Experience with test equipment and development of data acquisition system
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
