DescriptionELECTIONS DEPARTMENTThe El Dorado County Elections Department is responsible for conducting all federal, state, county, city, school, and special district elections. The Elections Department is also responsible for processing initiative, referenda, recall, and candidate nomination petitions, precinct and district boundary maintenance, and also locating polling places that are accessible to all voters. THE OPPORTUNITYPLEASE NOTE: THIS POSITION IS BEING HIRED AS PART-TIME BUT MAY INCREASE TO FULL-TIME DURING THE ELECTION CYCLE TO ACCOMMODATE A DEPARTMENT WORKLOAD INCREASE. THE NUMBER OF HOURS WORKED (IN PAID STATUS) WILL AFFECT THE COSTS OF BENEFITS AS DETERMINED BY THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING FOR THIS JOB. You will have the opportunity to perform a broad range of office and specialized support to the election process and provide detailed election information to candidates, voters, the press, and the public. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to: Research and compile reports regarding election statistics for the state, other agencies, the public, and the press.

Coordinate the petition process; advise proponents of guidelines, accepting petitions and reviewing signature counts, etc.

May perform selection of and contracting with polling places; notifies, schedules, and coordinates the work of election officers and precinct workers; maintains records regarding election activities.

Prepare information for precinct works, such as instruction, procedures ad manuals.

Perform data entry into specialized databases; organizes and maintains department files and logs.

Instruct and provide training to seasonal and temporary staff regarding elections procedures.

Assist in the administration of the Fair Political Practices Commission's mandated conflict of interest program for designated County employees, elected officials, and candidates for public office.

Type correspondence, reports, forms and specialized election documents from drafts, notes, or brief instructions; proos typed material for accuracy and completeness.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:The ideal Elections Technician candidate is someone with strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and has the skills to perform the work independently as well as the ability to work cooperatively with other County departments and the public.Human Resources will assess your application to determine if you are minimally qualified using the following recommendations:Any combination of the required experience, education, and training that would provide the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.Election Technician I: Equivalent to graduation from high school and two (2) years of general clerical or office support experience. Experience with the election process is desirable.Election Technician II: Equivalent to graduation from high school and two (2) year of experience at a level equivalent to the County of El Dorado class of Election Technician I.License and Certification:Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's License by time of appointment and a satisfactory driving record.
