Chef Job Description
Responsibilities
Work with Lodge Manager to establish a detailed plan for the restaurant, execute plan, and adhere to the kitchen budget defined by the plan
Foster a climate of cooperation and respect among co-workers
Minimize food waste through thoughtful planning
Manage the kitchen capabilities and work with Lodge Manager to acquire and maintain all cooking equipment, kitchen equipment, utensils etc
Work with Lodge Manager and owner to design menu
Experiment with recipes and suggest new ingredients
Master each menu item and recipe and work with Lodge Manager to acquire all necessary ingredients
Ensure meal orders are processed in a high-quality and timely manner
Ensure appealing plate presentation
Modify recipes to meet customers needs and requests (e.g. vegetarian, reduce salt, remove dairy)
Delegate tasks in a professional manner to kitchen staff as needed
Design daily specials and train wait staff on the details of the specials
Oversee and participate in the daily cleaning of the kitchen. Ensure your area as well as the rest of the kitchen is clean at the end of every shift.
Monitor food stock and place orders in collaboration with Lodge Manager
Check freshness of food and discard out-of-date items
Maintain a professional appearance
Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the kitchen area
Requirements
Proven work experience as a chef or cook
Excellent communication skills
Punctual, organized, and trustworthy
Ability to motivate staff in a professional manner
Ability to resolve conflict in a constructive manner
Ability to remain calm when kitchen demands peak
Hands-on experience with various kitchen equipment (e.g. grillers and pasta makers)
Advanced knowledge of culinary, baking and pastry techniques
Up-to-date knowledge of cooking techniques and recipes
Familiarity with sanitation regulations
