Registered Dietitian Specialist Position Overview

The Registered Dietitian Specialist provides comprehensive Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) for patients per the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) including: assessing; determining nutritional diagnosis(es); determining intervention(s); and monitoring and evaluating progress and/or outcome(s).

As the Registered Dietitian Specialist at Asante you will have the opportunity to:

Provide nutrition and population health services to patients in an outpatient setting and a Patient Centered Medical Home.

Work with a team of healthcare professionals leading the integration of nutrition, wellness, population health and behavior change strategies with a goal to improve the health and well being of a population.

Participate in population health projects and possible grant projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelor's or Master's degree in food and nutrition, dietetics, institutional management, or equivalent.

Must have successfully completed Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) accredited internship or a coordinated undergraduate program in dietetics.

Experience

Preferred experience -

o Two years clinical dietetic experience.

o Experience in documenting with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system, preferably EPIC.

o Leadership or management experience in dietetics and population health settings.

o Diabetes-related clinical experience. Experience teaching peers, adults in small groups and one-on-one. (Diabetes Ed Dept).

Licensure

RD : Registered Dietitian (RD) by Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) certified by the American Heart Association preferred

Required Skills

Must be able to prioritize patients based on predetermined criteria.

Effectively supervise and provide professional leadership to the dietary and medical staff.

Ability to work under self-direction.

Demonstrate both problem-solving skills of a complex nature and excellent organizational skills.

Must have ability to gain the confidence and co-operation of patients and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to represent the Nutrition Services department in both external and internal arenas.

Demonstrate a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and an even temperament when dealing with patients, families and co-workers, and staff at all times.

Preferred skills -

o Bilingual

o Compassionate, sense of humor, plus the ability to relate well with children, adults, medical staff and co-workers

o Experience with community education, public speaking and/or various media forums.
