PURPOSE
Under direct supervision, oversees the operation and production of a limited number of saw types producing materials and parts for assembly into a variety of wood based components.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. In-feeds lumber into saw and provides project-specific direction for sawing activities on a variety of sawing equipment; typically these are standard set up, relatively routine projects.
2. Makes angle and length adjustment to cutting equipment to produce parts on cutting list or batch specifications, ensuring accuracy of cuts.
3. Plans and assigns work tasks in order to meet daily, weekly, project, or team related production goals.
4. Develops saw skills and experience on different types of saws in order to increase own versatility and productivity for component production.
5. May perform minor adjustments to saws.
6. Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attends periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
7. Other duties may be assigned.
COMPETENCIES
Knowledge of and ability to use motorized lumber handling and sawing equipment
Manual dexterity
Knowledge of safety procedures while performing lumber handling and sawing tasks
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
Ability to read and understand simple diagrams or blueprints
Knowledge of basic math, angles and use of measuring tools

o Work is performed within a production environment, subject to temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, mechanical parts, increased noise levels and dust.
o Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and on occasion up to 80 pounds.
o May be required to perform specific tasks that involve climbing, lifting, pushing or kneeling.
