The system engineer will work closely with systems engineers, database administrators and associated business owners to build and maintain large scale enterprise level hardware infrastructure with an emphasis on performance and high availability. This is a hands-on position that will require technical expertise in all aspects of server, network and systems maintenance and deployment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Primary on-site hardware support of enterprise level hardware within a secure, raised-floor, collocated environment.
  • Responsible for rack installation, configuration and hardening of new enterprise level hardware and systems.
  • Provide on-site and remote troubleshooting and diagnosis of various server, network and systems related issues in a 24x7x365 environment.
  • Perform upgrades, configuration, maintenance, and repairs of system hardware and software during designated maintenance timeframes.
  • Responsible SOC compliant scheduled decommissioning of enterprise level hardware and systems.
  • Maintain constant contact with information technology group in corporate offices across the Continental US.
  • Maintain detailed equipment inventory documentation of all physical and virtual data center assets.
  • Be prepared to react to on-shift NOC notifications of server or system
  • Perform detailed analysis of server and system logs and/or monitoring records.
  • Stay up to date on current trends and best practices in Information Technology and related fields.
  • Other duties as required by business conditions or as assigned by team.

Essential Education, Experience and Interests:
  • A strong working knowledge of enterprise level data center processes and design (power, cooling, redundancy).
  • Functional knowledge of enterprise level network concepts and hardware is required.
  • Hands on experience working with enterprise level servers in a large scale environment (300+ servers), consisting of Client, IBM/Lenovo, Dell/EMC,Cisco UCS and white-box servers/blades.
  • Ability to document complex problem resolution summaries and SOP's.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem resolution skills.
  • Expertise with day-to-day data center operational tasks, including rack/stack, network switch/port configuration, server provisioning and server decommissioning.
  • Experience with enterprise level data center incident documentation, resolution and RCA collection.
  • Critical thinking and decision making related to outage risk assessment.
  • Strong cable management skills and experience managing fiber & copper in a data center environment.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills with the ability to look up information independently
  • Ability to work effectively with distributed teams
  • Results-oriented, self-motivated and quick study.
  • Strong interpersonal (both verbal and written) communication skills
  • Availability to work outside of normal production hours, preferably working a regular rotation.
  • 4+ years of experience working in and administering a production Windows environment.
  • 2+ years of experience working in and administering a production RHEL/CentOS environment.
  • Server Hardware: Client Proliant/Blades, IBM/Lenovo M4/M5/Blades, Cisco UCS, Dell/EMC, and Colfax/SuperMicro/Whitebox
  • Server OS: Windows Server 2008/2012/2016, RHEL 5/6/7 or CentOS equivalent, VMware ESXi 5/6
  • Network Hardware: Cisco,Dell/EMC, and Client
  • Storage Technology: Client 3PAR, Netapp, HPE EVA, Tintri VMstore
  • Software: Zabbix monitoring, LEMSS patch management, Symantec Endpoint protection, JIRA/Confluence, LanSweeper
