This is the Invention Age - and this is where you come in.General Summary Develops and applies Computer Aided Design (CAD) software engineering methods, theories, and research techniques in the investigation and solution of technical problems. Plans technical projects in the design and development of CAD software. Defines and selects new approaches and implementation of CAD software engineering applications and design specifications and parameters. Prepares design specifications, analysis, and recommendations for presentation and approval. May specify materials, equipment, and supplies required for completion of projects and may evaluate vendor capabilities to provide required products or services. Interfaces with various cross functional teams (RF, Analog, Digital IC designers, Foundry Process Technology and Modeling, IT, Legal, Finance, Procurement, and Operations) and external vendors to drive and incorporate the latest design solutions in the production program to improve cost, operational efficiency, productivity, and time to market. The responsibilities of this role include: Working independently with little supervision. Making decisions that are significant in impact; errors are not readily apparent due to the complexity of work process/product or time between decisions and results; errors typically result in significant expenditure of time, resources, and funds to correct. Using verbal and written communication skills to convey complex and/or detailed information to multiple individuals/audiences with differing knowledge levels. May require strong negotiation and influence, communication to large groups or high-level constituents. Having a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is consulted by senior leadership to provide input on key decisions). Completing tasks that require multiple steps that can be performed in various orders; tasks require simultaneously executing multiple cognitive abilities and maintaining information in short- or long-term memory. Exercising exceptional creativity to innovate new ideas and develop innovative products/processes without established objectives or known parameters. Using deductive and inductive problem solving; multiple approaches may be taken/necessary to solve the problem; often information is missing or conflicting; advanced data analysis and interpretation skills are required. Occasionally participates in strategic planning within own area affecting immediate operations. The responsibilities of this role do not include: Financial accountability (e.g., does not involve budgeting responsibility).Principal Duties & Responsibilities Modifies and/or develops highly complex tools and workflows that improve productivity and efficiency of design team. Applies advanced knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python, Django, Cadence) to optimize features and tools, and continuously seeks to acquire the latest programming languages and methodologies. Owns a workflow and determines the processes for how it should be written and released. Provides timely and accurate responses to highly technical questions and issues from customers (e.g., design engineers, executive team). Performs root cause analyses on highly complex customer problems to identify underlying issue. Directs team to add additional test cases when necessary to ensure that customer issues are fully understood and analyzed. Debugs complex software issues and escalates only the most complicated technical issues to Principal Engineers. Oversees the publication (e.g., writing, reviewing, editing) of product technical documentation for large projects. Acts as a tech lead on mid-sized to large projects and owns the outcome of the project. This includes basic concepts, major features and capabilities, and system management tools related to scripting. This also includes the ability to identify resources for addressing or answering scripting-related issues or questions. CAD Engineering - The ability to develop and apply Computer Aided Design (CAD) software engineering methods, theories, and research techniques in the investigation and solution of technical problems. This includes planning technical projects in the design and development of CAD software, defining and selecting new approaches and implementation of CAD software engineering applications, and preparing design specifications, analyses, and recommendations. Troubleshooting - Knowledge of systematic approaches to solving common technical problems (e.g., hardware, software, application, operational, process). This includes the ability to identify problems and report and escalate problems according to established procedures. This also includes the ability to identify available resources for troubleshooting.Additional Competencies N/AMinimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field. 7+ years CAD experience, EDA experience, or related work experience. 1+ years in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports.Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field. 12+ years CAD experience, EDA experience, or related work experience. 3+ years experience with Programming Language such as C, C, Java, Python, etc. 3+ years experience with scripting and automation environments. 4+ years experience with hardware design software such as layout, verification, schematic, timing tools. 2+ years of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Director level and above).Physical Requirements Frequently transports between offices, buildings, and campuses up to ½ mile. Frequently transports and installs equipment up to 5 lbs. Performs required tasks at various heights (e.g., standing or sitting). Monitors and utilizes computers and test equipment for more than 6 hours a day.
