Reporting to the VC-CFO, Information Technology Services (ITS) delivers Enterprise information technology services to the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) under the leadership of the campus Chief Information Officer (CIO).Information Technology Services (IT Services) uses world-class services and technologies to empower UC San Diego's mission to transform California and the world as a student-centered, research-focused, service-oriented public university. As a strategic member of the UC San Diego community, IT Services embraces innovation in their delivery of IT services, infrastructure, applications, and support. IT Services is customer-focused and committed to collaboration, continuous improvement, and accountability.The Enterprise Network section within ITS designs, implements and manages UC San Diego's networks focusing on wired/wireless data network operations, network architecture, installation and repair, voice and video, outside plant management, and telecom planning. This position is a senior network engineering position on a team of 10 network engineers, who design/implement/support the world class data network at UCSD, covering 400+ buildings and 70,000+ daily customers, which enables instruction, research, and community service. We are taking our first steps into production software defined networking, are already supporting production cloud operations, and continue to deploy and support the existing network technologies. RESPONSIBILITIES

Design, Engineering, and Maintenance of LAN/WAN Infrastructure

Operations Support

Data Communications Technology Assessment

QUALIFICATIONS

In-depth, advanced understanding of various network hardware platforms, network related protocols and software including understanding of OSI layer 2 and 3 protocols at a complex level and related technical standards critical to the operation of interconnected networks.

Detailed knowledge of TCP/IP protocol suite and routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, RIP.

Advanced knowledge of professional communications and network systems in the completion of diverse assignments.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively on large, highly available computer networks supporting critical applications.

Has highly developed problem solving skills to independently resolve issues using defined parameters and technical expertise. Skill in analyzing network problems, performance of fault isolation, problem resolution and service restoration.

Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
