Job Title: Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Duties:
The contractor will work on Ubuntu to Amazon Linux migration and Python 2 to 3 Upgrade. For Linux migration, he/she will investigate the current Linux setup and make plans for the migration. With help from other team members, migrate OS used from Ubunto to Amazon Linux 2 for multiple services and >20k EC2 hosts. For Python Upgrade, he/she will follow a handbook to do the code change by using open-source or in-house tools.
Expected work routine and duty:
For Python 2 to 3 Upgrade, roughly the first half of the employment:
The contractor will work on the migration team by team. For each business team, the contractor is expected to:
coordinate with the team POC on migration plan.
use tools to port Python 2 code to Python 3.
validate the migration result.
Use tools provided or
Follow per team validation requirements
debug and apply manual fixes.

Improve process, tooling, infrastructure
For Linux Migration, roughly the second half of the assignment:
The contractor will make a plan, lead a team of 3 contractors (the other 2 will be software engineers) and migrate Linux service by service. For each service, the team is expected to:
Build necessary tools/infrastructure to support the migration
Coordinate with service owner team on migration plan
Apply Chef changes and service changes to migrate Linux used
Validate the migration result
debug and apply manual fixes.
Skills: Must Have:
6+ years of experience
Fluent in Python
Experience with Ubuntu distributions and the apt package manager
Experience with CentOS or RHEL operating systems and the yum package manager
Experience with Chef
Nice to Have:
Experience with Python 2 to 3 Upgrade
Experience with Docker
Experience with offline data warehouse
