Project Overview:
Our client's Hardware team has two mechanical prototyping labs in San Francisco that provide the space, tools, and equipment needed to support our programs and NTI’s with early concepting and mechanical prototypes. A resource is needed to manage these labs and provide hands-on support with prototype builds.
Overall Responsibilities:
This lab tech will manage mechanically focused hardware labs, work with our internal mechanical engineering team, and drive responsibilities related to part fabrication, assembly, testing, and material management. They will also help drive builds and testing related to, but not limited to, mechanical sealing and tactile I/O.
Top 3 Daily Responsibilities:

  • Executes lab management including, equipment purchases and setup, equipment maintenance and calibration, inventory and materials management, and other general lab maintenance
  • Drives test procedures (with the guidance of the engineering team) including owning material readiness, managing bill of materials, test setup, data collection, and publishing of final results by compiling documents and test data into various documentation formats
  • Manages and drives small prototyping projects and builds requiring inspection, assembly, and measurement of mechanical and electrical components
Mandatory Skills/Qualifications:
Education: 4+ years experience as Lab Technician
  • Experience with mechanical fabrication and test equipment including Instron, drop towers, basic machine shop equipment, and hand tools to perform maintenance, assembly, and setup of fixtures and consumer electronic devices
  • Experience with SLA/SLS 3D printers, including part creation, managing file logs, general maintenance, cleaning, and material loading
  • Experience working with external vendors, managing materials part ordering and tracking, including assisting with shipping, receiving and equipment logistical duties for the labs
  • Understand 2D CAD drawings, rough engineering drawings, basic tolerances, and/or verbal instruction
  • Experience with the Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Meet
  • Good communication skills, working with cross functional teams including PD/ME’s, EE’s, and Program Management
  • Highly organized, able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and communicate status to team members
  • Experience with SLA/SLS 3D printers, including part creation, managing file logs, general maintenance, cleaning, and material loading
  • Understand 2D CAD drawings, rough engineering drawings, basic tolerances, and/or verbal instruction
