Security Architect (Position can be based in Hoffman Estates/ San Jose/ Austin)

Position Objective:
The Security Architect will identify and design security patterns that protect the availability, integrity, and confidentiality of information while enabling business growth. The incumbent is responsible for security technology innovation, strategy, pattern creation, testing conceptual designs, and assisting in the development of security services and roadmaps. This position assists the senior director, Global Cyber Security with the development and implementation of Enterprise Security policies, standards, procedures, and architectural guidelines.

Responsibilities:
  • Performs as subject matter expert and security advisor on projects to ensure compliance
  • Conducts research focused on identifying emerging security solutions that reduce costs, increase efficiencies, enable business growth, and reduce risks
  • Determines capacity limitations within designs and outlines growth strategies
  • Creates, reviews, and provides input to Security designs, implementation plans, and project timelines for various projects
  • Develops and maintains architectural documents – roadmaps, standards, reference architecture, and implementation documents
  • Analyzes and assesses vendor capabilities and functions as a security subject matter expert and strategy liaison between Information Technology and Enterprise Security
  • Communicates architectural decisions, plans, goals and strategies to key stakeholders across the enterprise
  • Identifies gaps in Security capabilities, standards, and roadmaps. Ensures architectural changes are assessed for impact on all security aspects, including the Information Security Policy, security controls, standards, and architecture principles and solutions
  • Participates and serves as the Enterprise Security Department representative on the Enterprise Architecture Board and Committee
  • Collaborates and works well with solution architects across the enterprise
  • Helps ensure services are maintained at the levels agreed in the Service Level Agreements and that they conform to all relevant statutory requirements
  • Expert understanding of security technologies and the architecture design of security technology offerings as applied to a layered defense strategy
  • Participates and serves as the Enterprise Security Department representative on the Enterprise Architecture Board and Committee
  • Keeps current with security industry standards and appropriate governmental regulations
  • Must have 5 to 10 years of experience working in an enterprise security organization
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Solid knowledge of security best practices, policies, standards, and guidelines
  • Solid understanding and experience with compliance standards and security regulations standards that impact the insurance industry
  • Solid understanding of information technology and security frameworks and best practices (COBIT, ISO27001/2, OWASP, NIST)
  • In-depth knowledge of various cloud services, including Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS)
  • Experience designing cloud security infrastructure using service providers, including AWS and/or Azure
  • Highly desirable to hold one or more security related certifications, such as CISSP, GPEN, CGIH, CEH
  • Highly desirable to hold a Cloud Security or Cloud Foundation certification
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must have excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Two to five years using security architecture models and principles is preferred
