Geography Department

Provides strong technical skills and leadership in all aspects of planning, developing, documenting, acquiring implementing, and maintaining the instructional, scientific, and administrative computing infrastructure of the Department of Geography and the Office of Campus Sustainability. Defines, identifies, designs, and delegates innovative and robust solutions to computational issues in order to effectively, securely facilitate the Department's administrative, instructional, and research missions. Directs, mentors, and monitors projects and work assignments for Department computing staff members to meet short- and long-range goals. Analyze and construct the annual, instructional-use computing (IUC) budget proposal. Ensures compute team members adhere to defined internal controls. Manages systems and procedures to protect departmental assets.
Reqs: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Previous work experience in computer support and systems administration. Experience writing code in multiple languages, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and using of the Windows XP operating system and Mac operating systems, high skill with most window system commands/ utilities, an office productivity software. Experience installing memory, disks, and boards in systems, installing configuring peripherals, diagnosis and repair of computer systems, Working knowledge of communications protocols including TCP/IP. Ability to multitask, prioritize deadlines, and effectively carry out project management functions. Listen and understand customer needs and respond in a timely manner. Ability to communicate well both in writing and verbally and serve as a liaison with the computing community at UCSB. Experience with IT project management and financial management.

$90,935-$100,000/yr.
