ResponsibilitiesMSTS is looking for a Principal Infrastructure Analyst to take lead maintaining and growing both classified and unclassified information systems, for Special Technologies Laboratory in Santa Barbara, CA. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to solving unique national security problems, and supporting an amazing team of scientists and engineers. Key Responsibilities Reviews or prepares requisitions for acquisition of network related equipment, software and cable installation.
Directs or coordinates installation of network hardware, software, and wiring.
Directs or coordinates analysis and resolution of network hardware, software and wiring problem.
Supervises or performs network server administration and directs formulation of related procedures.
Monitors network performance and capacity and recommends modifications or enhancements.
Participates in network design including developing proposals for implementation of network components.
Prepares procedures, documentation and activity reports.
Provides input to budget and monitors expenditures.
Responsible for documenting installation and maintenance processes, capacity planning, test plans, training requirements, and procurement of new IT systems.
Desire Data Communication specialist to evaluate, install, design, administrate, and troubleshoot telecommunication hardware and software, complex local area networks, virtual local area networks, wireless networks and wide area networks.
May implement and maintain security configuration in firewalls, routers,switches, security appliances, and communication circuits.
May provide server support to include installation, configuration, troubleshooting, repair and daily operations.
May respond to Help Desk requests to support and troubleshoot workstation and server related problems.
May design server and network architecture.
May provide user account, print queue, Groupware, email and application maintenance in addition to system security and change control.
May troubleshoot software, hardware and network problems and implement corrective actions.
May formulate/define system scope and objectives and devise or modify processes and procedures to solve complex networking problems.
May prepare detailed specifications and plans from which network systems are implemented.
May provide technical support to include installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of the equipment and software supporting the network.
May provide work direction and training to technicians and network engineers.
May lead network projects to design, install, or implement a new system or support modifications or deinstallation of an existing system.
QualificationsBachelor’s degree in a computer related field or equivalent training and experience with at least 8 years of related experience.
Takes ownership of technical problems and sees them through to resolution, using an advanced knowledge level of established standards, practices and procedures.
Knowledge of technical principles, theories, standards, practices and procedures.
Provide IT support for Linux, Windows, and Network systems, including the maintenance of systems: including but not limited to Rack mount servers, switches, and Server blades and Chassis.
Troubleshoot technical issues and identify modifications needed in existing applications to meet changing user requirements.
Assume responsibility for complete lifecycle of infrastructure systems including but not restricted to input to assessment of design, builds, post installation support, and deployments.
Provide backup and second level coverage to Technical Support Representatives as assigned.
Learn and comply with validation requirements, standard-operating procedures (SOP), and change control maintenance for product life cycle.
Document adjustments made to hardware and software as well as provide documentation for new systems as needed.
Provide support to Data Center environments including site recoverability of the primary data center.
Monitor system performance.
System maintenance work as assigned.
Report on client inventory items like slots, ports, cabinets, and power consumption.
Perform within change control and ticketing system environment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must be a team player with good customer service skills and the ability to work flexible hours if required.
Ensure to exhibit strong end-to-end troubleshooting skills for system, network or application.
Supports the consistent and effective implementation of new or changed IT services, architectures, technology, processes, information and metrics.
Responsible for documenting installation and maintenance processes, capacity planning, test plans, training requirements, and procurement of new IT systems.
Assists in the creation and implementation of the strategic vision and purpose of IT systems according to the organizations goals, objectives, and needs.
Provide architectural design diagrams and documentation and assess how to implement technologies into the existing infrastructure.
Ensures the consistent and effective implementation of new or changed IT services, architectures, technology, processes, information and metrics.
The primary work location will be at the Special Technologies Laboratory (STL) located in Santa Barbara, CA.
Restricted use of personal electronic devices while at the work place.
Flexible work schedule can be negotiated with the manager; employees can work 5/8's, 9/80's or 4/10's work-weeks.
The Alternative Work Agreement (AWA) status for this position will be Site Flexible (Part-time) which allows for some work to be conducted remotely.
Personnel may be requested by leadership to work in excess of 40 hours per week due to projects, activities, and emergences; critical operational demands may occasionally require off-shift work
Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
