Job Title: Brewing/Mead-making Assistant
Position type: Part-time , 20-25 hr/ week
Salary: $20-22/ hr DOE

About Apiary: We are a craft brewery specializing in innovative non-beer fermented beverages like cider, mead, hard jun kombucha, and low alcohol botanical beverages. We started out almost 10 years ago on a mission to make healthier alcohol options, brewed from the most exceptional, better-for-you ingredients. We currently operate our flagship taproom at our brewery in Carpinteria, with plans to expand our business into wholesale and additional taprooms. Similar to a start-up, Apiary is quickly growing & evolving. There are many opportunities to solve problems, innovate solutions, and establish & improve new systems.
Position Description:
Assisting the Lead Brewer in all aspects of the production activities, allowing for more teamwork and productivity, toward the goal of building a highly functional and creative brewing team.
Roles and Responsibilities:
At the beginning of each week and each work day, communicating with and following instruction of the Lead Brewer about tasks to be completed, and how they are to be prioritized and completed.
Using appropriate checklists and written standard operating procedures to complete tasks in the production space when one is available.
Completing production tasks as assigned, together with the Lead Brewer or individually, as deemed appropriate; to include, but not limited to:
Cleaning and sanitizing of all fermentation and carbonation vessels between uses
Maintaining cleanliness and organization of all tools and equipment
Using the keg washer when scheduled
Feeding and processing Jun kombucha products with the Lead Brewer
Transfering, processing and packaging beverage products
Performing all primary fermentation activities with the Lead Brewer
Regular checkups, assessment and care for active fermentations
Using Batch Logs to document all fermentation information and metrics
Regular care and maintenance of the production equipment and hardware
Physical Demands:
Must be able to stand for 8-10 hours
Lift 50lb - 25lb above shoulder height
Safely use caustic cleaner and acid sanitizer (will be included in instruction)
Skills Required:
Attention to detail and patience for brewing process to achieve high standards of quality
Mechanical or electrical troubleshooting experience preferred but not required
A willingness to contribute to all areas of the brewery as needed with a positive attitude
1-2 years of brewing industry, packaging line, and forklift experience preferred.
