Full Time with Benefits

Compensation: Depending on experience $18.00 to $22.00/hr

Hourly (range 40hrs/week); Tuesday – Saturday, 8:00am – 5:00pm (1-hour unpaid meal break) (Schedule can change depending on the needs of the museum)

Position Summary:

Provides custodial and maintenance services for the museum’s buildings and campus. Responsibilities also include the set up and break down of museum and private events, repair projects as assigned and emergency response to events around the museum campus that require facilities support. Assist the Director of Facilities in any assigned projects or tasks. Provides services in moving equipment, exhibit displays and furniture, receiving shipments and storing supplies. Responsible for the inventory, stocking and ordering of the museum’s custodial supplies. In addition, this position provides services ensuring the secure and safe environment for our museum guest and staff. This position also supports the exhibits department and aids in any exhibit maintenance and repairs as assigned and approved by the Director of Facilities.

Specific Responsibilities:

Basic Duties:

 Reports promptly for shift in order to perform opening duties

 Disarms and arms Museum buildings when needed for operations

 Opens the Museum galleries and halls and other buildings around campus

 Reports any exhibit issues to the Exhibits Department

 Handles the completion of museum work orders and other set up and break down tasks for Museum and private events

 Provide support to Museum events and facilities use as directed

 Provide security and support for the museum campus

 Delivers Museum store merchandise and other items as needed

 Help move and deliver supplies

 Check email communications regularly and respond including work orders and Facilities Help tickets

 Other duties as assigned

Maintenance:

 Provides basic repairs and maintenance of the Museum facilities

 Manage and provide preventative maintenance work for Museum facilities

 Inspects and provide basic repairs & maintenance for the Museum vehicles

 Work on assigned Facilities Help tickets from varies departments and staff

 Contact and schedules approved Museum vendors needed for skilled work & labor

 Manage & maintain woodshop tool and power tools

Custodial:

 Provides housekeeping and general janitorial maintenance of all Museum buildings and campus

 Follows the Museum’s daily and weekly custodial schedule & other custodial duties as assigned

 Maintain clean and safe areas for Museum guest and staff

 Maintain the Museum’s housekeeping schedule and provide input for adjustments and improvements

 Maintain the custodial inventory and handling of stocking of supplies

 Advise supervisor of supplies needed and order supplies as directed

 Responds to custodial emergencies

Assisting:

 In the absence of the Director of Facilities acts as lead for the Facilities Department

 Helps Director of Facilities provide coverage for other positions in the Facilities Department

 Assists Director of Facilities in managing the facilities help ticket system and assigning out tickets to the appropriate staff

 Works closely with the Director of Facilities to maintain the Museum campus and varies preventative maintenance items around the Museum

 Assist the Groundskeeper when needed and supports Grounds related projects

 Assist the Exhibits Department in the care, maintenance and installation of the museum’s exhibits and exhibit spaces

 Supports the Exhibits Lead with assigned projects from the Director of Facilities

 Schedule and act a main point of contact for varies Museum approved vendors and contractors

 Helps provide training and onboarding of new facilities staff

Special Projects:

 Works on special maintenance and repair projects as assigned by the Director of Facilities

 Manages the expense and reporting of special projects

 Working with the Museum’s Conditional Use Permit, schedules projects and work to avoid any violations

 Schedules work for special projects around our operational hours and best times to perform work

 Balance and prioritize time between regular responsibilities of the position and working on special projects or assisting in exhibit related projects

 Work with and manage approved contractors and vendors on projects as needed

Essential Requirements:

 High School Diploma or GED. Minimum 1 year custodial and/or maintenance experience

 Frequent standing, walking, bending, sitting, climbing (stairs & ladders), crawling and lifting of moderate to heavy loads (50lbs)

 Occasional work in elevated places

 Able to operate and use a hand truck for moving supplies

 Able to operate scissor lift and other aerial lift equipment

 Able to use ladders safely

 Able to regularly work one weekend day

 Able to follow verbal and written instructions: good auditory skills with a full range of hearing and good vision including acuity, depth perception, color vision

 Comfortable working around the general public

 Able to respond to emergency situations including but not limited to chemical spills, fires, and evacuations

 Able to safely operate electric utility vehicle & other museum vehicles

 Must present a professional demeanor in dress and interactions with public and authorities. Partial uniforms will be supplied (shirts)

 Flexible time management (working around other departments and projects)

 Basic computer skills required, ability to use email and communicate using the Museum’s Microsoft Outlook, basic Microsoft Word

 Hold a valid California Driver’s License

 Must be vaccinated from the COVID-19 virus and hold a valid COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card

Additional Required Skills:

 Knowledge and experience using a variety of small power tools

 Painting, drywall, carpentry skills

 Basic electrical & plumbing skills

 Mechanical repair of small equipment

 Knowledge, use & maintenance of woodshop power tools

Work Environment:

 Frequent work throughout all Museum facilities including conference facilities, galleries, exhibit halls, presentation halls, research laboratories, storage rooms, roofs, and maintenance and/or metal/wood shop

 Frequent work outdoors, walking grounds and in inclement weather
